[Solved] TV Episodes (Somehow) saved as mp3 files imported by Plex as a music album

Server Version#: 1.108.1.307-dd5b87aa
Player Version#: N/A

I have somehow ended up with some episodes of “Good Eats” saved in MP3 format. I can understand why plex would see the format and think it’s music, but it’s not. I’ve tried Matching and Fixing Match, but it doesn’t allow me to change the metadata agent to one for TV shows.

Is my only option to somehow convert the files into mp4/mkv or something?

Any chance the files are named incorrectly, as mp3 instead of mp4?

mp3 files cannot contain video tracks. Only audio.

Yep, that worked. I was able to play the files as video in VLC before renaming, so that should have been a clue as well.

I renamed the files to be .mp4 and then scanned both the Show and Music libraries in Plex, and the files now seem to be in the correct library.

Another clue is that all of the other files in that season are AVI, so I tried renaming one of the “MP3” to AVI, and that plays fine in both VLC as well as Plex, so I guess everything is sorted, regardless of the file naming.

Thanks @FordGuy61 !
