Detecting MP4 Music

Greetings,
Most of my music collection is in MP4 format. In the Music library section of Plex I don’t see any of my music. When I add my music folder to the Movie library Plex sees all of the music. I realize that I’m fighting a file format issue where Plex has determined that all MP4 files are movies, not music (yeah, I get it). Is there any work around to see my MP4 music files in the Plex Music library. I’m assuming there has already been a thread for this but I couldn’t find it.

Thanks!

an experiment:
copy the files of an album
then rename the file endings from .mp4 to .m4a
add these renamed files into your music folder and let plex update the music library

Thanks, OttoKerner! After the experiment I can now see the music files. Plex detected the artist as “Unknown Artist”. I’m guessing this is because of the metadata and information at the time of encoding the MP4. You’ve answered my question. Thanks much.

use .m4a, not .aac
