Some DVD's play back in a smaller format

I notice that while most of my “widescreen” format videos (from uploaded DVDs) play back stretched out across the entire screen with black bars above and below, one or two play back with the “widescreen” shape but in a much smaller format centered in the middle of my screen. Is there any way to enlarge this image on playback?

I uploaded all of my DVD’s using MakeMKV so they are all in the .MKV format.

Use Handbrake.fr to crop the black bars from your videos.

I don’t think this will work as it begins cropping at the edge of the actual video image and not the black bars around it. But thanks for the suggestion.
