Some Files have horrible playback quality.... why?

Server Version#: 4.87.2
Player Version#: ???

I don’t download under 15gb file size, yet sometimes I get a warning before playback where you can select Got It! and then playback looks like it’s streaming a 200mb file, absolute garbage. Most of the time I’m able to stream 15-20gb files in amazing high defe… what’s with the inconsistencies? Please help. Thanks

The larger a file you have, the higher is the chance that this file is not simply playable in a regular web browser. It requires the server to transcode it. Try a dedicated Plex client, like “Plex for Windows/Mac/Linux” or “Plex HTPC” (download links below) which can play a larger number of file formats without requiring transcoding on the server.

Another factor which regularly throws a spanner in the quality is a poorly structured network.
You may end up with an “indirect” connection between client and server which is limited to 1mbps bandwidth without Plex Pass, so it will look like garbage.
