Hi ,
Plex Server is installed in Synology NAS 718+
I have setup the server and the Samsung TV -> player to MAX quality but whatever movie/tvshow I play it plays in very low quality , almost unbearable to watch.
However if I browse with my computer and play the video manually from NAS it plays perfect with MAX quality. if I go from PC to Plex Server the through a browser and play any video it plays the video with low quality.
As far as I remember I always had this problem even in Betas but I didnt pay much attention because I was busy. I am on vacations now and took some time to relax and watch some 4K Movies with my new TV and I am getting this very bad quality … so I am abit frustrated with plex and I have tried almost everything on settings etc.
Your post is a little vague when it comes to your setup (e.g. wired vs. wireless network, playback in your home network our remote, which player do you use – Samsung DLNA or the Plex client) and the media you’re trying to play.
Your post sounds like Plex is trying to transcode the videos to meet some constraint it gets from the TV or believes it needs to comply with – this could be lots of things… from containers, codecs for video/audio/subtitles, bitrates, # of channels, type of subtitles.
well I am on a wired network and using Samsung Plex Client but I am telling you that the same thing is happening with my pc as well if I use plex media player on the PC.
Is not something with the PC or TV , I am like 100% is something to do with the server trans-coding the files. Mostly I am playing mkv files.
I played a sample movie , I clicked on the movie settings on plex and is saying Quality : 4.0 Mbps 576p (original) which is TOTALLY wrong the original is 720P!
I played another movie 1080p and is saying Quality : 280 kbs (Original)
What is wrong with plex , cant even detect the original quality…
Is there any option to disable this transcode thingy , my network and my hardware are powerful enough to play the media as is , I dont want to lower the quality.
I just want plex to play the video as is as all the other media players do, simple as that , why making things complicated ?
Well maybe but I can stream from all other software just fine from my Nas to TV. For example if I use Synology video player on Samsung TV it plays excellent every video.
I have other devices as well that streaming fine like WD TV Live , IPTV , Android with XBMC so is not something with my network. Is only PLEX that giving me these weird problems.
Wow… Looking at the VideoStation software online… It looks very nice. Has options I wouldn’t think it would… Like subtitle support, filters, search, etc… Looks damn near like Plex does.Hmm. Who’s copying who here???
I guess Synology has more $$$ to invest into creating a standalone app specific to their hardware. Anyway, I see your point. If Synology can do it so should Plex, lol!
I have downloaded another movie after setting plex server all to the MAX and it played it ok at 4k.
But the existing movies/tvshows are playing low quality but not the new ones. I guess maybe that is because plex already transcoded the existing movies/tvshows to low quality and it cant change the quality anymore?
