Had this issue for a while, it affects all my android clients if the app is still running on my Sheild TV and switch to my sons user he sees nothing. I have to log in to mine then switch when in the UI not from login screen and then it works. Web app seems ok, but local PMS also has the issue. Has this been recognised as a bug by Plex they really need to sort it.
I’m still experiencing this issue as well, now several months out. I can use app.plex.tv just fine. I keep checking with every update, but still experience the issue. Hoping this gets addressed.
Found a fix for the issue.
You have to remove your local DNS suffix from your DHCP servers settings. Plex see’s the login from my internal IP 10.1.1.20 but also gets confused because of my local dns suffix (Laptop.local.domain.tld)
Removing the dns suffix resolved this issue.
Plex daddies please fix.
Just started getting this error the PC that’s actually running the Plex server… And just randomly went away after about 15 minutes. Can someone explain what’s happening? Never happened before, just out of the blue.
It is surreal that we continue with this error since February.
Having the exact same problems as mentioned here. When i try and log into the Plex app, it says the server can’t be found. I have to say, as a recent switcher to Plex from MrMC, i am woefully unimpressed by how many issues i have found - especially for a product i am paying for
Movies randomly stopping after losing connection to the server (for no reason) and then restarting from the beginning
Users randomly being unable to connect to the Plex server (via Shield or TV Plex App)
and quite a few more
Very close to ditching Plex and going back to a more stable product.
Still no soup with 1.15.4.919. Doesn’t look like this will fixed until the bundled webapp version is updated, which will be … when?
Any chance of a reply from an actual Plex staff member? Paying for this product?
That is crazy talk. “Hey Plex devs, here is issue ‘x’, it’s widespread and obviously not isolated. Please fix”.
5h!t response: “Why are you using the bundled webapp? Use the hosted version”
Intelligent response: “Thanks for bringing this error to our attention. This issue is related to ‘x’, we have prioritized and it will be fixed in the next release within a few days. As a workaround, you can use the hosted version of the webapp until it is resolved.”
I hadn’t upgraded my pms in 60 days, as i am generaly a slow to change person, and this is now dogging me.
This is literally over two months old. I understand focusing on the core product, but i would imagine, watching movies and having your placed saved to be pretty damn core.
Did anybody send logs to ericmatthys?
For what it’s worth… I’ve had same issue for the last few weeks, and based on previous comments, just cleared my browser’s cookies, relating to localhost, plex.tv and whatever the 3rd option was that Chrome decided related to the site/server, and the problem has disappeared…
Using Chrome: found error via Check for Updates (right clicking Plex icon in Windows system tray), clicked Chrome’s “i” next to the Plex server’s URL, clicked on Cookies, and just deleted them… Closed browser, re-launched (via Check for updates in Plex’s Windows system tray icon) had to re-logon again, and voila.
You have to remove your local DNS suffix from your DHCP servers settings.
ObsequiousUnicorn, what OS? This is what I found to do that on Win7: How to remove .local dns suffix on Windows 7? - Super User
Anyway, I tried that on my my server PC and my wife’s client PC. She still can’t get in. When she uses the local IP address 192.168.1.189:32400, the PLEX logo comes up and eventually it bounces her to app.plex.tv.
I really just want my Home Users to be my home users. My family, that’s it. And they SHOULD be able to log in at the server address, but for some reason they can’t any longer. Very frustrating.
Also, I’m wondering what DNS people are using and if PLEX is getting confused about localhost as someone had mentioned. I’m using DNS from 1.1.1.1.
Is there a way to clear cache/cookies in Plex Media Player for Windows? Maybe this is why logging out and logging back in helps temporarily?
I can’t switch to the Chrome app because Chrome won’t direct play as many things as PMP, and this computer is also my server and occasionally overheats when transcoding for playback on the same device (but that’s an entirely separate issue).
Getting the same error here for a while now.
The same bug is present in the Plex Media Player desktop app in browser view also. I can’t even change account settings in the desktop app because of this. Also can’t use Live TV guide as it gives the ‘no zoup for you’ message.
Using the Web app as suggested works fine.
I have 1 user having the same issue on chrome accessing it using my domain (plex.domain.com), my server is on linux, no changes in months.
I guess the only real solution here is for us all cancel our plex pass and change to emby.
The same issue for some time now on Windows 10 Pro PC:
-
When accessing Plex Media server locally (127.0.0.1) only one “master user” can operate normally and all media content is available as normal.
Any other restricted home users get “undefined” server message or “no soup for you”. Tried to create a brand new restricted home user - the same issue. -
When accessing the same Plex Media server over the “app.plex.tv/desktop#” everything works just fine for all users.
For both options the same Windows user account is used. I could replicate this behavior every single time for option 1 and option 2.
This issue has started some weeks ago after some plex media server update.
This issue is not related to the windows firewall or Windows update as everything works fine when option 2 is used.
Well, I would like to use Plex Media server locally as I was able to do for quite a while now. This change is simply not acceptable or must be fixed if this is a bug.
Even if you load the web app from app.plex.tv you are still using your server locally.
Nothing changes in the communication between the web browser and your Plex server.
That is because it is an app and not a regular website.
So I just updated to PMS: Version 1.15.4.993
Which includes an update for Plex Web version to 3.95.2
After the update I didnt get any more the undefined server error.
On the other side I made the same test with the Plex Media Player for windows.
Which has the Plex Web version 3.83.2 and the undefined server error is still coming.
For me this looks as I said before that we just need an update for the Plex Web versions on every channel.
I can confirm that after updating to 1.15.4.993 the error for restricted home users has gone. So far, so good. Will see if it re-appear again.
