Something went wrong playing your media. Please Try again

Server Version#:1.19.3.2831-181d9145d
Player Version#:2.18 (15406)

I was apparnetly using an older server (1.9.7) until I noticed my Apple TV client could no longer see any of my media. Per another thread I updated to the latest server version I could download.

As of now I cannot resume a video I started watching last night, nor any other video on my server. I get the following error every time I try:

Something went wrong playing your media. Please try again.

Could not diret play because: App cannot direct play this item. No direct play video profile exists for protocol http, with container mp4, using video coded h264, audio codec aac, and subtitle codec eia_608.
Could not transcode because: Cannot convert this item. No convrsion profile found for protocol http.

Everything worked fine with v1.9.7, but again once my media no longer showed in the Apple TV client I had to update it.

I found another thread expressing the same problem from a few years ago.

There was never any kind of ‘fix’ more a work around on the part of the users.

Ironically enough it seems to be the classic player + subtitles that cause the issue.

Ironically I have another thread describing problems with subtitles on Apple TV, but this update puts a nail in the coffin for subittles so to speak…

Apparently the work around is to either:

  1. Disable the subitles completely (so classic player will work).
  2. Disable “Use Old Video Player” (which for some reason causes my subtitles to display as boxes or random characters).

Before I had to choose between subtitles or being able to resume a video with audio enabled. This pretty much takes the choce away…

Guess Plex is a really bad choice for thoes who require subtitles…

I am regularly getting error messages now in the middle of my cardio classes being streamed from my MBP. These haven’t been 1080 or HD files, so it has been very frustrating. The files will not restart.

I also saw another older thread so the issue workaround seems to be to slow down the Plex internet streaming to 1.5Mbps, 480p

Someone mentioned using Infuse 6 instead of Plex, so I am swapping over to try it
