Sometimes Safari 15.2 on macOS Moneterey is not playing h.265/HEVC, forcing transcoding

Using latest (at time of post) Safari and macOS on M1 Mac, for the very same video, sometimes Safari is choosing h.264. This causes transcoding on the server, and sometimes some stuttering.

h.265 is listed as supported in Safari 15.x, so I’m not clear why it’s working sometimes and not others, for the very same source material.

Hi,
I have the same with a Probook 2018 Intel
H265 readers are made without image (balck) but with sound
So I go through the desktop client for Mac …
I think it comes from a problem on Safari
