Sonic adventure

Hi Elan,
I use trackradio in the car to get a flow of tracks with similar atmosphere.
When playing with sonic adventure, it’s great fun to mix songs by starting with extremely opposing sounds, like Roy Orbison vs Living Colour.
Love it.

This is so fantastic. Awesome addition to have. I asked each person in my house to pick one song I put it in the sonic adventure and it was fun to see everyone react as some of their favorite songs weaved in and out.

Don’t know whos idea this was a Plex to put it in. But that person deserves and extra vacation day or something.

Where is the tutorial or screenshots that show how to enable the Sonic feature at the server? Running 1.25.xx and cannot locate it.

Here you go
From https://support.plex.tv/articles/sonic-analysis-music/

Requirements

Sonic analysis does have some specific requirements:

  • Active Plex Pass subscription for the server admin account
  • You must be running Plex Media Server v1.24.0 or newer
    • Windows, macOS, and Linux (64-bit only) are supported (this includes most NAS devices)
    • ARM-based CPUs are not supported (with the exception of Apple’s M1 systems, which use Rosetta 2 emulation)
  • The new functionality based on sonic data is currently only available when using Plexamp for playback
  • My Plex Pass has been enabled under Admin
  • Upgraded to 1.25.1.5286 Plex Server on the Linux last night
  • Plexamp on the Mac 3.8.2 and Sonic appears on the Stations list
  • After adding two songs in the new feature, it fails to do anything else and provides no warnings or feedback
  • Is there an option under the Server Settings to Enable Sonic – is my main question?

Yes… same link; see “Getting Started With Sonic Analysis”

Found The Getting Started article. Can’t locate the Analysis option under step 1. But the Music folder under the library for step 2 had the enabled option- checked it and will let it process and see what happens. Thanks!

when i try to start a sonic adventure, i get a “couldnt start playback” error. I checked the console logs and the error shown there is

LPE: invalid url: library://x/item/%2Flibrary%2Fmetadata%2F%3FincludeSharedContent%3D1%26maxDegreesOfSeparation%3D2

Any ideas? I should add that this sometimes happens when i try to start sonic radio as well.

Most likely the sonic analysis hasn’t completed yet. The next release has better messaging around this.

thanks @elan, I should mention that i migrated to a pms-docker and did a restore. Prior to the migration, everything worked like a dream :slightly_smiling_face:

Is there any way i can force a new sonic analysis? a clean slate so to speak?

Based on your settings, it should run after a scan or at night. You can set it to run after a scan and then start/cancel the scan and watch the web activity indicator.

I suspect the reason i cannot start sonic adventure (or some sonic track radios) is to do with the following errors:

interestingly, track index shows 7485 tracks which is only half of my music library.

[MusicAnalysis] Building track index with 7485 tracks.

That probably implies you didn’t properly restore the blobs database, which can lead to all sorts of issues. I believe the nightly sonic analysis will detect and repair at least sonic data, but I’m not 100% sure.

Would be great if we could do “load as sonic adventure” on an album/playlist instead of entering the tracks manually!

This is my favorite feature of Sonic Analysis - it’s absolutely awesome

Today’s fun was Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train → Prince - Purple Rain
