You’ll see the spinning wheel around the Dashboard icon (upper right corner) on the web interface just like you do when you’re scanning a library. If you mouse over it, you’ll see a pop-up that will tell you how many albums Sonic Analysis has left to scan.
I posted a picture two posts above yours that shows this. If you don’t see that, you can also search your Plex Media Server log for the term “Music Analysis”. If that’s not in your log files and you don’t see the indicator on the web interface, it’s not running.
Im not sure if this is it or not (prob not as no mention of “Music Analysis” in the Spinning Wheel scan library area.
Unrelated but …Its been spinning for the longest tme (many days now) for the Refreshing Guide Data. not sure how to fix that but I dont use my Music Server on my NAS for TV viewing so…but still would like to fix that issue so it stops spinning and wasting CPU resources. Need to check the logs and see what the issue is that its hanging on. Dont remember having this issue before.
Only thing it shows right now is scanning music but I think that is normalwhen I do a corced scan for new items. (I have a LARGE) music dbase of over 1700 albums/CDs (so far…)
Not sure what is the best thing to do.
QUESTION - Which of my 3 Plex servers would be best to turn this feature on to get it all completed the fastest?
My 10TB WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra NAS, where the FLAC music files are actually location
My NVIDIA Shield Pro (which only looks at the Plex shared folder on the NAS to play the music
My Laptop PC which also only looks on the NAS Shared area to play music to it
Id rather use the system that is the fastest to complete and taxes the entire system the least
You’re in the right spot, and definitely not running Sonic Analysis. You are running a music library scan though; Sonic Analysis should start after that completes if you have it to setup to run after music is added.
Like Elan said, your only option of those 3 is to run SA from your laptop. I haven’t done it on a remote server, all my stuff is on one machine with Plex, so I would be limited to help if you’re having issues due to that.
I am also struggling with the Sonic analysis stuck at 853 albums (after scanning 4000+) I am struggling in trying to identify which albums may be causing the issue (as read in other fora). I am attaching the latest logs - if you could indicate where the problem is, or what exactly I should be looking for, I will be very thankful. I really appreciate your patience with a not-very-technical enthusiast like me.
Based on your logs, it sort of looks like there is a corrupt file in the album The Eames Era - Double Dutch. When it gets stuck, does it use 100% of the CPU for the Plex Transcoder?
Thanks a lot Elan! I don’t even like that band anymore…
I have now removed the album so now waiting for the sonic analysis to start again so I’ll let you know how it goes. From memory the CPU usage was up and down but mostly up.
If I may ask, how did you find the culprit? What gave you the clue?
just looked for the last line around music analysis in the logs. you can set it to analyze right after a scan is stopped too if you change the setting.
Brilliant mate, thanks a lot for this. I will have a look.
Now the scan does not seem to be happening (no spinning wheel as before) but the CPU is pegged at around 50% with a few spikes jumping all the way to 100%. Is this normal? I’ve tried to initiate a normal library scan but still no spinning wheel. I can easily stop and re-start the server if that could help? any advice will be much welcomed
50% CPU generally means sonic analysis is happening. Make sure you access via https://app.plex.tv and you can see the progress in the top right status.
That’s what I thought, and it was how I saw it was stuck before, but now there’s no spinning wheel nor the Sonic analysis and the number of albums left message.
I can see this in the dashboard:
Hold on! I thought I’d check in another laptop and there you are, the wheel was spinning and counting. So I signed out from this computer, closed and reopened the browser and here it is:
The process was stuck at 855 albums before, now it is at 692. I’ll keep an eye on the progress and report back.
Hi can anyone derive what goes on with my sonic analysis from the log? The process seems not to be moving at all. Kindly appreciate If anyone can lead me to the right direction to solve this problem, Thanks!
