Sonic library analysis ~ manual start?

I enabled this to run as a scheduled task 10 days ago. I updated my scheduled tasks window to be from 0:00 to 6:00 and I still have yet to see any evidence of “sonic analysis” having been run on any of my music…this is poorly implemented…there should be something giving a status of anything that might be happening or at least some expectation of how long we should wait for it to be finished based on our library size and server performance.

Just saw this tip on the support article ( Sonic Analysis for Music | Plex Support. Will give it a shot.

After turning up the logging yesterday, I now see that something was, indeed, going on behind the curtain…

Apparently it was running as a scheduled task but was NOT running when adding new music to the library.

I’m actually impressed with the speed at which it did it’s job. I expected much longer going over 16K tracks.

It is running on my Synology Nas. I have 475 albums, been running for about 12 hours and still have 470 albums left to go. I have a ds418play running dsm 7. so at 5 albums/12 hours i have about 47 days to go.

I take it you were running the analysis as scheduled maintenance – have you set the maintenance slots to be going for 12 hours? Keep in mind Plex will also do its usual maintenance during that time – if there’s too much else going on, Plex won’t have capacity for the sonic analysis.

I’ve set maintenance to run for 23 hours and am avoiding using the nas for anything else.Screenshot_20210829-113549_Edge~2

After several days, I haven’t seen any evidence of this working at all…except that my Plex Server keeps quitting every morning and requiring a restart. It sounds like a great feature if it ever works, but for now, I’m turning it off to see if that stops killing the server.

I had a look at the log and the sonic service starts, determines the number of albums that it will process. it then states 0% processed and then no more mention of the sonic process. I suspect that it needs a bit of a tweak.
