Most TVs have 100 Mbps Ethernet ports. High bit rate video can burst over 100 Mbps, resulting in buffering.
Can you connect via 5GHz WiFi?
A decent 5 GHz 802.11AC signal will give you over 100 Mbps throughput.
Also, is it all 4K or just high bit rate 4K that buffers?
Find the lowest bit-rate 4K video in your library and try it. See if it buffers. You can sort by bit-rate in Plex Web (don’t remember if that is available in AndroidTV).
Oh right. wasn’t aware of this thank you. The video causing the issue is 70084kbps so def could burst higher than 100, Other videos don’t do the same thing (even 4K but lower bit rate)
next issue i have is my H950W soundbar from samsung doesn’t support earc ha.
When HDMI-eARC first rolled out, no TV apps passed high bit rate audio via HDMI-eARC. The TV would only pass the audio for external devices connected via another HDMI port.
For example:
Plex app on a Smart TV: No TrueHD via HDMI-eARC. Limited to what passes over HDMI-ARC.
Plex app on a Shield connected to same TV: TrueHD passed via HDMI-eARC.
AFAIK, the above is still true. I have not seen any posts on this forum that would indicate anything has changed.
Just an FYI before you drop some money on new sound gear.
thank you I really appreciate the info. looks like i should wait and just enjoy the current setup which does indeed work with atmos showing on soundbar
