Sound on PS4

Hello,

I want to describe my expiriences on watching movie on my PS4 and multi channel sound.

My PS4 is connected to my Onkyo receiver by HDMI that supports any sound format currently to be found on BlueRay etc. The PS4 is currently set to PCM sound.
But also DolbyDigital or the DTS option I tried.

In all three cases I have lousy sound expirience with my movies. It sounds like as the stream is compressed at a rate of 128kb per second or less. Due to that my speakers are capable to transmit the sound very exactly I really start to don’t like to watch movies over plex anymore. Whenever I watch the same movie using the build in PS4 player with DLNA from my Synology the sound is clear and fine. Also if I slightly have the feeling that the PS4 overrate the center channel a bit so that at certain moments I have “scratching” and no clear sound anymore in my speaker. It’s somehow like the clipping effect you can find in mp3 format audio. To me it looks like as the PS4 is not handling the sound getting it from Plex in the same way than it does when playback the movie through the build in media player. Unfortunatelly there’s no option to force the PS4 to passthrough the original bitstream. When I attach my PC to my Onkyo and passthrough the bitstream the the sound is really crystal clear and it’s a joy to watch the movie. I don’t know what Plex can do here that we maybe minimum reach the same sound quality as using the build in media player of the PS4. I doubt that Sony will change anything how they transfer the soundstream even if they are capable of to do as from a standard BlueRay I can initiate a bitstream transmission. And at least my Onkyo generates a much better sound out of the bitstream then the PS4 does and send the result then through the PCM.

Is there anybody who has similar expiriences or may can give a hint what to do?

Thank you
Seahawk
