Sourcing channel data from EPG and local XMLTV file

I currently have xTeVe set up with all channels, but it’s not an ideal setup. Some of the channels aren’t listed in the EPG so I can’t enable them without selecting a channel. The most obvious remedy for this would be to allow a local XMLTV file to be selected for those, but the interface locks you in to either using the EPG or using a local XMLTV file. I’d like to use both: keep EPG data for most channel data and have the local XMLTV file so that those additional channels can be enabled. Right now I have them under a cloak of secrecy wherein they’re assigned to random Pay-per-view channels so that I can at least be selectable. I’d like to avoid that if at all possible.

This similar topic/question is very similar, or even identical: Use xmltv and Plex provider EPG simultaneously to complement missing data

Might check schedule direct and see if they have all the channels you have. I use them. Then I use EPG123 to download the schedules and save the resulting xmltv file.

You’ll need to either 1) Set up all guide data in xTeVe via XMLTV which is very easy or 2) Deal with Plex EPG.

The good thing about supplying your own via XMLTV is you can put the channels in any order you want with whatever icons you want.

If you choose this route I heard guide2go and a certain companion site works wonders.

Looks interesting. I might try that out since it probably fits in better with what I need (the channels are local to where I live at and so don’t have a consumable guide). I was hoping to stick to the Plex EPG since, based on past experience, it seemed to work better with Plex overall than the externally generated program guide (XMLTV).
