Server Version#: Version 4.113.2 (Docker)
Tuner Make/Model: xteve (ipTV) + Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-955Q (x2) + Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD
I am using the USB tuners for 42 over the air channels, and xteve for a few hundred IPTV channels.
I have had the USB tuners working for years, all good. Just right now trying to add in IPTV channels using xteve (Docker) and having a challenge with EPG / XMLTV.
If I set up the USB tuners first with Plex’s EPG, they are all good, but then when I add xteve, I cannot specify the XMLTV source on my server.
Similarly, if I set up xteve first and specify the XMLTV source on my server., they are all good, but then when I add my USB tuners, I cannot use Plex’s EPG.
Not in Plex. Search for “2 tab workaround” for a “solution” that is crappy at best. Only real solution is to do all through Xteve and pull the XMLTV from Schedules Direct or Zap2XML (or similar).
This topic has caused me endless frustration for something so simple. Would be a very easy fix that’s been requested for years.
if you have schedules direct account then you can use a program called EPG123 and it connects to SD and then you choose your service provider and you can then select all the channels you want info for and it will generate an xml guide for you. this is what i do and then I run a script to move the xml file to the threadfin (xteve fork and better than xteve) xml directory alongside the one that threadfin generates. Now in plex i add my HDHR tuner i say i have an xml file and i then point it to http://hostname:port/xmltv/epg123.xml and this then picks up all of my boradcast channels from the HDHR and maps the guide to them. After that I do the same for my iptv channels via threadfin and poing the xml to http://hostname:port/xmltv/threadfin.xml
Works a treat for me and i find Threadfin to be much better than xteve and others like tellytv.
Its a massive frustration for me that I cannot use both and I assume there is some form of matching what they get from gracenote and what comes in from xmltv.
In my case, I have Free to air over USB dongle, and Freesat via zgemma so its all legit content and works with Plex EPG but I also wanted to pipe in my cctv via tvheadend and also local sports streams via tv headend but the biggest stop point is the EPG sources.
My work around is to list them as generic channels from the Plex EPG that vaguly match and just ignore the EPG content.
I could pay for SD but I already pay plex for this service as part of plex pass but just cannot use it properly. Even if they provided authenticated links to xmltv contect would be cool.
A simple solution from my mind woud be the ability to add custom channels within plex where you can title the channel with a custom name and dummy epg like xteve allows and I can imagine it would not be a difficult addition to make as they would control the metadata.
