EDIT 2: As of August 26, 2025 this is still an issue…
When “special” subtitles show, like a floating one above a sign, the app hard crashes. entirely closes out. Also, sometimes subtitles do not show at all on iPad even though they are selected or when they show they are entirely out of sync with the video, either behind or ahead. The same video files have no issues on other devices though like android or google tv.
The subtitle format in question in this example is an .ASS format:
Been having the same issue with in-file .ass subtitles. Crashes during less standard subtitles, like sign/speech bubble replacement. Also they often do not sync properly in the first place. It seems if there is a subtitle too close to the beginning of the file the subtitle begins immediately instead of the second or two in.
I’ve just encountered this issue (tried to watch some of my anime collection on the bus) and this is just inexcusable now I’ve seen posts reporting this issue from the day they rolled out this shoddy excuse for an update and I can’t really overlook this anymore and without any official word on this just goes to show what they really think about their user base
I agree. Where is the urgency and feedback from the Plex team? This is a bug that impacts a lot of users and on top of that, HARD crashes the app at worst… This should be critical and this bug has been reported forever ago…
