SRT/ASS subtitles on Plex on Roku leads to transcoding

Hi community,

In advance: it worked for years and nothing changed on my side.

Setup: Roku Ultra, Plex newest Version, QNAP NAS

Plex on Roku can “Direct Play” every movie.

But - when I activate srt or ass subtitles in a movie, Plex will transcode. This is new, this never happened in the past and this worked for years. Srt subs never led to transcoding.

Whys that and what changed?

also - this does NOT happen on a Amazon FireTV stick > there direct play with srt works perfect.

Are they foreign of english sub? I have the same issue with foreign(French) language only.
