Start Watching Recording in Progress from Beginning(Failing)

Egads Plex, this used to work in old PMS/clients, why are so many of your users fighting this “feature”? It’s sooooo annoying when I go to watch an in-progress show and when selecting “watch from start” it starts playing somewhere in the middle of the show not the start! I have to wait for the show to end to watch from the actual start! Seriously, please fix this!! How many have to complain?

260+ posts complaining about this basic issue. How is this not solved yet? Does Plex have any testers? I’ve been a loyal Plex Lifetime holder for years and I love the service. I just wish they would actually fix bugs and not continue to introduce new ones. How about you pause all new feature adds and just clean up the outstanding bug reports for a bit?

How is that internal poking coming?

I know this is a useless post and nothing to add other than I have the same issue. Watch from beginning, rewind etc, all fails.

While it sucks for most men who watch sports etc, doing this plex thing vs renting the DVR from the cable company is our own tech doing.

What Plex is underestimating is the marital issues that arise as a result of the wife not being able to watch The Batchelorette. Every Monday, its the same ■■■■. She cant start watching the show 30m late with her GF, threatening to get cable DVR, the list goes on. Tonight she missed the “bloopers” from the show. Apparently that’s a big deal.

This is a very frustrating bug. Plex DVR is useless for watching a recorded program in progress. It works fine for watching completed recordings, but this is unacceptable for a real world DVR experience. It is unacceptable that the Plex team hasn’t fixed this by now.

I’ve all but given up. Plex should be ashamed to not have addressed this bug a year ago. I suggest everyone who is up in arms over this lack of response should reply again and I mean today. Fill up this forum. Everyone reading this forum should know just how pissed off we really are. Ridiculous!

Yeah I’m pretty pissed with the lack of communication over a critical bug.

Live TV and DVR is why I got a Plex pass.

Me too. I have resorted to keeping my HD Homerun DVR subscription active just to have a working option for live TV. I expected better from the Plex team. It’s not like we are running cheap hardware. Our main Plex is on a dedicated high spec machine. We have all of our Nvidia Shield TVs on hardwired Ethernet. I think now after seeing all of these posts that we are talking to ourselves and the Plex team is silent.

Thank you for looking into it. We are very anxious to see this fixed. Plex is our primary DVR/TV in our household and we would be so grateful if you had this bug fixed.

I am using 1.16.3.1402 and this issue hasn’t been resolved. There are several posts about this issue in these forums being replied to by Plex personnel, are you guys working together on this? I see posts from your CTO and Co-Founder @elan and Plex Employee @DaveBinM.

Just install Emby and be done with it… Plex drove me to it… cant say I hadn’t been patient, probably a drop on the ocean losing my £3.99 a month but sure I am not alone…

Yeah, I’m building a new system as soon as my parts arrive. I will be trying out the Emby server then. It’s difficult to admit that I’ve given up on Plex. I’ve been with them for such a long time. I just want a system that does what I’ve been told it will do. Something easy to use so my family can enjoy it without fuss. Plex has been lagging in that aspect lately. The whole DVR issue is my breaking point.

FWIW I have the same issue with live tv not starting at the beginning of the recording and time shifting is a mess in live TV. This is a problem on Android app (phone) and on shield TV. Works fine once the recording is complete. I always just figured it was something wrong with my setup someplace, but looks like it is a major issue for a lot of folks. We just live with it and wait for recordings to finish before watching our shows. If we need live tv, I just use HD homerun app with the basic rewind, pause features on the shield. Hoping for a Plex fix, but I am considering dumping my Plex pass subscription if i can find an alternative that works.

@elan What in the world is going on here? Basic functionality seems to be ignored in favor of fluff features.

If a core product feature isn’t working, it seems reasonable to fix it rapidly.

I’m losing my patience. Please polish your existing product before allowing feature bloat to take hold.

It’s not hard to reproduce, so either they don’t care to fix it, or they can’t. Either way, I’ve gone from a die-hard supporter to someone who’s embarrassed to recommend them to anyone. It’s just too bad.

I just set up an Emby server. So far the DVR functionality is vastly superior to the Plex DVR. Going to give it a month before I decide to get a lifetime with Emby.

Thank you for your suggestion. The Emby Live TV and DVR is fantastic so far. Let’s see how the month goes before I decide to get a lifetime with Emby.

Which tuner(s) are you using?

We are using two HDHomerun Primes that have three tuners each. It was a breeze to setup in Emby. The program guide info populated very quickly. I am using Emby solely as a DVR right now and it is impressive. I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to be able to watch a program that is being recorded from the beginning and be able to scan forwards and backwards without the locking up. I used the default selections when setting it up. Emby appears to be having no conflicts utilizing all six tuners as well. Emby has a lot of customization options available, but it is not intuitive. I need to do some investigating before getting it tweaked to my liking.

What are you using as a front end?
