Hey all, I came here a few weeks ago to try to find a fix for this issue. Been following the topic since. However, recently “watch from the beginning” has started to work for me, and I can’t figure out why. Perhaps my logs would be useful?
For the past week and a half I have been trying to recreate the issue, but every time I try, “Watch from the beginning” seems to work flawlessly. I have tried on long shows (2 hours), short shows (30 minutes), and shows that were being recorded back-to-back (e.g., back-to-back episodes of the same show on the same channel). It has worked every time.
I am using an HDHomeRun Quatro hooked up to a QNAP TVS-673e. I am currently using Plex Server version 1.16.2.1297.

What client device and version are you using?
I’m watching on an Apple TV 4K. The Plex player is 2.5.1 (12901).
I am using the same server but in synology and with web client, nvidia shield and Android don’t work.
Just tried it. No change
Android TV - video locks after 2nd FF
PMP - always goes back to beginning every FF
It is very disappointing that @elan and the Plex team hasn’t had any success fixing this especially since this post was started over a year ago and it’s one of many that have this same bug mentioned. At least this thread is being updated by the Plex customers enough to keep it from being closed. Judging from the responses from the Plex team this post would have been closed a long time ago by the 90 day limit awaiting a reply from them.
Ok, well I’m learning that tomorrow night is the first part of a two-part finale for the Bachelorette and my wife wants to have people over to watch the second part live on Tuesday, so I’ll be testing again tomorrow night.
How are you guys testing this? I usually just wait at least 10 minutes (sometimes a lot more) and then try to start from the beginning. Once it works, I don’t try watching for a while or fast forwarding much. Should I be? Is that where most failures are occurring?
I had one failure about 6 weeks ago during the Bachelorette. I kept trying to get it to work and it seemed to fail a different way every few minutes. 3 weeks ago or so I had another failure during which it just wouldn’t give me the option to go back to the beginning.
Watching an in progress recording has not worked for me for over a year. I am given the options to watch from beginning or live when I choose an in progress recording to watch. When I select watch from beginning it goes to the live portion and when I try to scan back to the beginning Plex locks up/crashes. When I select watch live it goes to live and I cannot scan back and locks up/crashes. Or Plex just locks up/crashes before I get the choice. So far Plex hasn’t been able to resolve this.

@elan - bump - me too. It couldn’t be any more comical reading through this - having all of us tech people on here complaining because our SO can’t watch Bachelorette 15 minutes after it starts. You know, if it was just me, I’d deal - but my wife having to wait until 10PM on a work night to start an 8PM show is enough to get me on here to complain, and eventually, enough to get me to move back to my TiVo that I just shelved. Please help!

I for one am happy that Plex interferes with The Bachelorette (sorry couldn’t resist) 
On the other hand…NFL season is starting soon. Need to be able to timeshift though all the commercials and 1/2 time. Takes the 3hr game down to 2hr

No judgment from me. I believe that Plex DVR should work for whatever program you choose to watch.

Back to the drawing board. I tried to start up the Bachelorette recording 1 hour 35 minutes into the recording, and it jumped straight to live TV. No option was presented.
On another tuner, I was also recording an episode of Friends, which was a few minutes in. I WAS able to select “Watch from the beginning” for that recording. Of note, the Friends recording was a back-to-back recording; I recorded another show on the same channel 30 minutes prior.

Wife had a group of friends over to watch Bachelorette, 5 women in the house, Selected the show after it had started about 30 minutes prior, went straight to live, no option to start from the beginning.
The wife was horrified, everyone packed up and went to a friends house that had cable and DVR.
No way I can defend Plex after that…

Add me to the list. Tried it on my Roku and Firestick 4k. Both started live even after choosing watch from beginning. Also a Bachelorette issue…
Just checking back on this issue out of interest as since my jump to Emby because of this issue and sure enough, still broken, devs not interested/can’t fix it/complete lack of communication whatever it might be is the reason I have decided to hang up my Plex Pass EVEN if they do fix it. For them to happily take the money from me and completely ignore their upset customers is the actual reason for leaving, sad times, fallen completely out of love with Plex and so glad this happened as the buzzing community and devs that respond in MINUTES most of the time, a couple of hours at the worst proves they want/will look after you before & after they take your money. For anyone else not sure, I cannot begin to emphasize how good Emby is, so customizable & far slicker & better looking, all my friends & family much prefer it to the old stale Plex. Good luck to all of those that hang in there, I hope your fix comes soon!

Just had this fail with the wife and Bach too yesterday…no bueno.
Additionally, it wasn’t even watchable after due to plex being unable to write to the destination? I’ve never had to specify that, and everything else is fine with my libraries…so now I need to troubleshoot that? Blech…
