We are using Emby for Live TV and DVR and getting closer to moving all media services too. Plex has always done the media serving very well. I am taking baby steps to transition to a full Emby platform. We’ve been with Plex almost from the beginning and there is a slight learning curve getting used to getting Emby configured.

Wow, no response from you on this topic since June 2018. This is not encouraging. @elan don’t you think it’s worth the time and effort to get this resolved for your Plex Pass subscribers since this is one of the main reasons why your customers pay for a Plex Pass?
I have never experienced such a lack of customer service from a software company. The lack of focus by the complete Plex staff is simply ridiculous. Is anyone ever going to provide an update to all of the users on this forum? Your software is broken…it’s been broken for over a year…you have my lifetime membership fee…you haven’t provided any estimated date for repair. FRAUD!!!

It is very discouraging. The Plex forums are a mess too. I see so many different postings about this issue when I perform a Forum search for “timeshift”. The forums are so fractured. It makes it difficult for customers to have a focused resource to voice their concerns about most issues. I guess that works for the Plex Team as it appears to dilute the attention to a serious issue. We can continue to include @elan and other Plex Team members in these postings but it doesn’t do any good. Plex had the advantage at the beginning but competitors like Emby have bested them in the Live TV and DVR functionality and responsive and informative support in a well structured forum.

For those of you thinking about transitioning to Emby… I just upgraded to the latest version of Emby Server (4.2.0.40) and the LiveTV/DVR is working better than ever (note: you might need to disable the hardware acceleration in the transcode config section as it is set by default). I am all set for Broncos/Falcons tomorrow night and college football later this month. I was really hoping that Plex would have figured this out by now, but Emby is working well enough that I am uninstalling Plex servers and Plex players altogether. I have given up on Plex.

What tuners are you using?
Have joined the wave of switchers to Emby, the Roku app for it is janky at times, but at least the DVR functionality works

We are using Emby with 2 HDHomerun three tuner Primes with zero tuner conflicts or weak signal messages. Watching an in progress recording works flawlessly. The guide for the live TV can be customized. We are using Nvidia Shield TVs for our clients (just got the Android Update to Pie). We are so happy we switched.

I am now seriously considering looking into Emby - I understand the guide data might not be so good for New Zealand (neither was Plex), with plex I’m able to specify an xmltv file, does anyone know if you can do this in Emby as well?

It’s been said in other venues that there is no one left at PLEX who can understand the software.

The biggest issue for me is simply the lack of communication. If we had some comms and some expectations were set I think a lot of us would be happier.
When nothing useful comes out apart from “I’ll poke someone internally” it’s extremely frustrating and it feels as though this may never be fixed.
Please - just let us know what is going on and keep us updated.

Everyone said the same thing during the December disaster as well. He said “he heard everyone”, made some excuses, and promised to correct things moving forward. Others at the time pointed out he’d done that before as well. Don’t hold your breath!

Check out the Emby forums. I have found them to be really helpful.
Plex DVR has caused so much stress in my household. We couldn’t wait any longer for the Plex team to fix it. We are using the latest version of Emby for Live TV and DVR and it is better than Plex. No tuner conflicts, no weak signal messages, and no problems with watching in progress recordings. The installation guides are helpful. I had everything up and running in minutes and was setting up recordings moments after.
The lack of communication from Plex leads to speculation and rumors. The fact that this problem has persisted for so long is troubling. It makes me so mad when I see sponsored YouTube creators talking about Plex without talking about this problem and offering Plex Pass subscription affiliate links. I guess the YouTube shills just want a payout and are not concerned about reputation.

I will not be pinging him in future posts as they are well aware of these issues.
