So Channels DVR will allow a remote user to install the app, connect back to my Channels DVR install to stream LiveTV? I need to check this out
Just updated my nVidia Shield to the 7.21.0 release that just came out and the problem is solved! This is huge (for Android users). Now hopefully they release a fix for the Apple TV and then all my users will be all set.
I’ve been using that version for awhile (beta), it is much improved, which is very encouraging, however it still has a few problems. I went to use it last night and Plex froze up and crashed.
So yeah, it’s a big step in the right direction.
Still no progress for the 98% of the people not using PMP.
I just tried Channels DVR, looks like it is nice, unless you use a Roku, which it does not support as a client. Unbelievable.
Fire TV, android TV, Apple TV, and IOS users are in luck, however.
Just reporting my experiences with the latest 7.21 release of Plex on Nvidia Shield has been working for me. Started a recording, then chose to “watch from beginning” after ~45 minutes and had 0 issues with scrubbing forward or backward.
I’ve been having a problem with Record > Advanced. When I try to reach the bottom button (down arrow on the remote) after a couple of presses the Plex client reboots.
This happened on 7.20.0.1192 and on the 7.21 beta release as well.

I’m curious what % of Plex Pass (paying) users are subscribing mainly for the DVR? In my own case, this is the primary reason I’m using Plex at all, but it falls so far short of the ancient Windows Media Center. The idea of one universal media platform is appealing but without a robust DVR it’s making me think about alternatives.
In an attempt to replace and retire WMC, I bought a Plex Pass. I thought hey, this is Plex, their DVR must be awesome, wrong, it doesn’t even come close to WMC. During the past couple of months I’ve tried Emby to see if their DVR would work for me, that turned out to be a bust too. I am now using Channels DVR and even tho it isn’t quite WMC’s DVR, it is waayyy better then Plex or Emby and is what I plan to use for the foreseeable future.
My story too (minus the Emby detour). We used to do all our home viewing on an old Celeron NUC running Win8 and WMC - despite my additional investment, it feels like we’ve gone backwards. At this point I might try Channels or even go back to the PC/WMC for another year.
this is the only think stopping me moving to Emby,
“Hauppauge TV Tuners (on Emby Server for Windows)”
when they sort this out for docker and if plex still hasn’t fixed the basics of the dvr i’m out of here
I used to mess around with the hauppauge with windows media center and then with tvheadend to use them with Emby but I replaced them with an HD Homerun Quad, best thing I ever did! highly recommend and works seamlessly with Emby (and plex but with the current issues)
This continues to be inconsistent. On iOS, Meet the Press first presented me with the Live/Start dialogue box and worked as expected. A few minutes later, it went directly to live TV with no option to rewind. Web app also goes directly to live.

PMS Version 1.16.5.1554
Web Client version 4.6.2
PMS server is Windows 10, built last year with plenty of RAM and CPU.
I have the same control problems as others reporting here. I have tried running the web client on a different PC on the same network and on the PMS server itself. I started a show only about a minute after it started. I chose watch from start. After it got to the first commercial break, I tried to jump ahead. It actually jumped back a few seconds. Clicking to jump ahead again did nothing to the video playback but it did pretend that something happened by moving the status bar forward.
I wanted to try using the new desktop client, but that won’t show the closed captions for me. The web client does show captions, but that’s a separate issue.
I used to do programming, now more sys admin. I still can think like a programmer. I will try to do some more in depth testing if that will help anyone but I can’t see that it would be necessary. I would think the issues are repeatable enough by anyone.
I admit that I did not go through every one of the previous 573 messages. Has anyone laid out from a design standpoint what the difficulty is to make this work? As plenty of people have said, WMC go this right many many years ago. Are there copyright issues or licensing issues that are standing in the way? Are you having to re-invent how to do this because you can’t use certain methods or designs?
I recorded the Packer/Vikings game yesterday and started watching it about 30 minutes in. I was using my Amazon Fire 4K box ( couple models old now). I have a Windows 10 machine with Beta PMS. I was able to time shift and slowly catch up just fine. First time in a long time. Don’t think time shifting has been working right on my other Roku TV though. Last tried a couple weeks ago and I don’t think I’ve gotten an update since then. Still progress
Not sure how reliable it is on Roku, but it did work for me yesterday. Unfortunately, I was able to test it because of another Plex issue that caused me to have to restart the stream, but since PMS hadn’t killed it yet, I was offered to start it from the beginning or live. I chose beginning just to test and was able to fast forward just fine.
My HDHomeRun Prime is in New York and I live in Missouri. Will this Channels DVR allow me to watch Live TV from the HDHomeRun Prime in New York? Or do I have to be in New York to watch Live TV with Channels DVR?
100% absolutely broken using latest PLEX Preview on ROKU with latest PMS Beta on W10. Stream is MPEG2, no transcoding.
100% absolutely broken using latest PLEX app on ATV4K with same server.
100% absolutely no progress in more than a year.
100% absolutely broken means random offer to start from beginning, 100% random start point, 100% random “jump to” point for time shifting. Once again a “go back” jumped back two previous shows. The tuner in question had been recording that same station for a couple hours across multiple shows.
You can’t say this when there are reports of it actually working. I had it work for me on Sunday. Previously, it wasn’t working at all. I would call that progress, even if it isn’t working 100% of the time.
And save your speech about cheerleading. I have plenty of complaints and issues, I just choose not to be an ass about it.
100% absolutely no progress in more than a year. Even a broken clock is right twice per day.
