Start Watching Recording in Progress from Beginning(Failing)

How do I get that information? I assumed that is just one application on your servers and running inside my web browser.
Is that the “Plex WEB Version” in settings? 4.46.2
Is that upgradeable somehow?
FYI: I just tested again, and it really does not work. I click on program which is being recorded for 15 minutes now and it immediately starts in real time, no offer to start from beginning.
Can some extension accidentally block this feature?
I have tried multiple times and there is short time before play starts from current time, when it looks like I can drag to earlier time. If I manage to do so, nothing plays at all, all I get is spinning circle forever.

That’s the version. Sometimes if people haven’t refreshed or have a cached version, they can not line up with our latest releases. Can I also just ask what version your server is?

1.20.3483-something. The one before the current update. I keep updating to release versions within days of release. Now I am on vacations, so I did not update to the latest.
It is running on Synology NAS, DS218+ with Intel cpu.

Hmm, I’ll follow up with one of our web folks.

Apple TV app is also having problems with live seeking during a recording.

You’ll need to give a bit more detail and some logs from the client and server, covering the time this happened, please.

Server Version#: 1.20.5.3562 & 1.20.5.3583
Player Version#: 7.10
Tuner Make/Model: HDHomerun Connect
Guide/Lineup name: OTA 53154
Using XMLTV?: NO
Channel number/Name: WTMJ and WISN

Apple TV live seek while recording does not work. Attempting to seek returns me to the beginning of the file or another position near the beginning of the file.

Issue happening around 10:18pm CDT.

Do you have the client logs covering this period too?

Added to the post.

Not been able to timeshift on the web player for some time.

Firefox, up to date, tune a channel that is recording and it just goes live, no box popping up offering to start from the beginning.

Annoying - much like the entire live TV/DVR experience…

Good news: I was finally able to watch live TV today!!! yeah!
Bad news:
I was trying to watch an NFL game while recording, however, after multiple tries through half time, I was also sent directly into Live TV - no option to play from beginning. Having experienced this before, I watched from the beginning, rather than trusting PLEX to provide me with this essential option. It hasn’t worked for me before, and it didn’t work again today.
I have attached logs. Test cases at 2:28, 2:30, 2:33, and 2:34 Then “disabled” debug(File removed) (File removed)

Server Version#: 1.21.0.3616-d87012962
Player Version#: 1.24.0.1483-714cba36
Tuner Make/Model: Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD - USB
Guide/Lineup name: PLEX (if there is a “name” or ver#, I can’t find it)
Channel number/Name:: 25.1 WFXT

Yes, this is broken again…going on three (3) years later…

There are issues with my Shield TV:

  1. If I exit the playback screen and try to play the recording again from the Guide, I just get a blank screen. I can’t play the in-progress recording again until I “Force Stop” the app.

  2. If I hit the up arrow in the playback screen it exits out to the Guide instead of showing the OSD.

  3. If I try to jump forward 30s (press the right direction arrow) while the OSD is showing and the timeline is focused, the video playback actually jumps back instead of forward.

Jumping in here to add to the pile. The last two updates broke this. It was working fine before, except for the 30 second skips. I could scrub just fine.

On a Google Chromecast with Google TV, the one with the remote, with Linux PMS. I can start playing a recording in progress from the beginning or current position. Either way, I can’t time shift at all either with the jumps or scrubbing, and after 5 minutes or so, the client boots me to my Home Screen.

I can cast from my iOS app or desktop, but scrubbing jumps all over the place and the 30 second hops don’t work at all, kicking me to the start of the recording.

Pretty disappointing that this keeps breaking on and off every few updates. Also really frustrating that most things work, then Plex pushes an update 2 days later that fixes 2 or 3 minor guide issues, but breaks a bunch of important functionality, then waits weeks to push anything attempting to fix it. Definitely not what I thought I was paying for.

Just had some issues myself. I was trying to play a show that was currently recording.

My server runs on Nvidia Shield with HDHR quatro tuners. Recordings stored on NAS.

I tried 3 different sceneries with different results:

  • Plex on shield - play from beginning OR live - player would just spin
  • Plex on iphone - play from beginning would just spin / playing live works
  • Plex on windows desktop app - play from beginning and live both work

I watched the logs when attempting to start from beginning on the shield and would get this red error:
Couldn’t find the file to stream: /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb/cache/Transcode/Sessions/plex-transcode-7c245eb6-4448-4847-a80c-bf3a5bcab1b9/media-00005.ts

the error repeats over and over.

I will be honest - this is a long thread and I didn’t read every post. Please let me know if this is something you are still working on or if I can do anything else to help. thanks.

Another scenario where this fails is with extended post padding. I often record an extra hour for sporting events. There is no way to start watching while it is recording in the post padding because the EPG no longer shows the event and it is not listed in the recordings library while it still is recording.

Can any plex employees check in? Is this item being looked at? My wife gets mad when she has to wait until a recording is over to watch it…

Thanks.

@DaveBinM

Hey guys - I am new to all this - do we need to tag people for visibility or does plex get notified of new comments?

Hmmm… was going to buy a tuner to get live OTA recording setup… this is a deal breaker. Will have to look at other options.

NextPVR works great for me. I gave up on Plex 2 years ago.
