Still need to pay??

Hi,
I have a premiun account and wish to add some manged users to my server which I did succesfully.
Now I installed the app on a iPad and Androuind phone. Both ask me to either register or make an account. The latter I already have but when I log in the app “says” I have to take a premium account and it stays in trail modus.

What do I do wrong?

The situation is for school so I want that the teachers dont have to makie an account whatsoever but just want them to be able to login the part of the server which is interesting for them.

After you installed the app, you must connect it to a plex.tv account that is part of a ‘Plex Home’.
Then the 1 minute limit gets lifted.

see https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/203868088-Unlocking-or-Activating-Plex-for-Android

and https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/205556278-Unlocking-or-Activating-Plex-for-iOS

Ok I partly understand but can my teachers then all use the same Plex account? Our new server can hosts a max of 20 streams so do I need to make 20 accounts?

No. You can only have 15 ‘managed’ users in your Plex Home.
Either a few persons need to share their user accounts, or you need to unlock the apps for them with a one-time payment.

Sorry to hijack this thread, I can open a separate one if required, but I have related issue.

I have asked my iOS users to follow the linked guide above and also tried it myself. But the restrictions are either not lifted or the device sees the Plex media server as offline. This is what we attempted:

  1. The screenshot that shows, subscription, activation or restoration (in the guide) doesn’t appear on any of the UK iPhone or iPad apps. Across 6 users it’s either subscribe or restore, no activation.

  2. Some users who recall purchasing the app, tried restoration but iTunes reports that no in-app purchases were made.

  3. Users on my ‘Plex Home’ report that upon signing on to a freshly installed app, they can only see their device and not my server (appears offline). However all users on the same device can access the server via Plex.tv on their Safari Web browsers.

Can you confirm a few things:

Do UK users have ‘activation’ option, if so where is it?

Why can’t ‘Plex Home’ users use their iOS apps? Do they need to sign out of all their devices first.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

@fswings for the “home” feature - YOU the server owner (who actually has the plex pass) need to sign in to the apps and then use the switch user feature in the app to let your users switch to their own account.

Sorry Im an idiot cause I still don’t follow so let me write an exapmple (close to what I want)
In the plexserver I have:
Movie of parts of movies
Visual tests
Listen tests

For the above I have create 3 (Plex)mailaccounts:
1 for admin purposes
1 for Movie purposes
1 for the test (both) purposes

So when I install the app and use the admin mail account (on which the premium is registered) all works great but thats not what I want casue users can see and change things. Instead I use the Movie Plex account but if I do I have to to a one time purchase. I am afraid I am missing a logicla link here somewhere?!

I also found that managed users part so I made 3 accounts the same as above with the difference that the movie part is free to enter, no password or PIN, for the tests ofc a PIN is needed.

All these accounts are found in the Home section of the Plexserver

The server which we have build for this should be abloe to stream 20 stream at once (1080p) so we will have no more than 20 connected users to stream what they want.

So what I want is that the teacher download the app from whatever store and login to the pexserver.
Do I understand correctly that he/she always need a excisting plexaccount (with email)?

If so? what is the purpose of the managed user?

Managed users are for use in a typical ‘family’ setup:
Parent sets up a server and buys Plex Pass.
Parent then creates managed users (for the kids, spouse or grandparents) which don’t need an email address because they are a kind of ‘Sub-Account’ of the parent.

You can use ‘managed’ users, but you’ll have to ‘sign in’ all the used client devices to your own Plex account, using your own Plex credentials.
Only after that you can ‘switch users’ on these devices to one of the managed users. The only thing preventing these managed users from accessing your own ‘Admin level’ is your 4-digit PIN.

Ok cool I followed you link and I understand a bit more of it. But still its not what I want. In the example they use the Plex Media Player and they first have to sign in them selves before their kids can see there own login logo on screen.
I also noticed that when I f.e. install it for the first time on my Android phone I login with the Plex Premium account whioch is admin. Only when I switch user I see the icons agian to switch to another user.

What Am I missing here.
(Im am a system admin and manage hundreds of AD accounts, but Plex I just can’t get into my head :()

Perhaps I see it completely wrong. I tried on my iPad and I login as admin so the user can do all what I dont want.
Is is so that only 1 mailadres (Plexaccount) can have the premium sub?

I thought making another Plex account I still can use the premium but seems not. Or I am wrong.

The ulitmate question si:
How can I get it so that the teacher login via the webapp (not player) and sees only 3 incons to enter into?

I guess is what I want I cant get done with only one premium account.
What ever I try on whatever platform, all login to the admin account (because its the only one with the premium sub)
So if I want that let see 2 accounts can login to the Plex server without enterinmg admin I have to get 2 more subs?

Hehe, yeah when you are accustomed to a hierarchical approach like in a company, it is harder to wrap your head around the Plex way.
That is because Plex is built for domestic use, by private persons.

You can do what you want, by inviting the additional plex.tv accounts into your Plex Home.
That way external users don’t need the account credentials of the Admin.
All members of the Home inherit the benefits of the Admin’s Plex Pass.
However, this also activates ‘Fast User Switching’ . You still need to set the 4 digit PIN on your admin account, to prevent them switching to your level.

And you can only have up to 15 users in your Plex Home.
So a few people in your organization need to share their plex account if you need more than 15.
