can't get atv to show movie icons either in library view or preview screen

Hi guys,

A quick one.

I have a at3 and just set-up plex connect using terminal on OSx on Mac mini (10.8.4). 

Plex Media Server 0.9.7.28.33

It worked, in the most part but, however the icons for movies are not displayed on the atv3 (5.2.1). All my libraries and content are there with the movie names but no preview icon for the movie. I have factory reset twice and can't get atv to show movie icons either in library view or preview screen.

Any advice on how I can solve this issue. It's so much harder to find the movie with no graphic icon to view, especially for my kids.

Do you have the most recent github master version of Plexconnect? Also try rescanning your PMS library, and for good measure, restart PMS.

Thanks Rock Star. I have restarted ATV and PMS with no luck.

I am novice when it comes to Terminal, I cant tell what version Plex Connect is running & what is github?

I only configured this less than 7 days ago based on instructions from You tube

Any other thoughts?

So you have installed the most recent zip file from that link? If so, I guess I would suggest upgrading your ATV firmware to 5.3. Is that possible? By the way my username is institute11 not Rock Star, the latter is a label the forum gives if you have posted far too often.

Thanks again institute 11, I have checked its 5.3 firmware on the Apple TV.

Obviously you have icons through your ATV 3, is that right?

What else could it be?

I have icons yes. Plexconnect works perfectly here. I will suggest one last thing and then your best bet is to post all the troubleshooting info requested in the “read before posting” thread above.


What version of python is installed on your Mac? Plexconnect works best using 2.7 and I know that snow leopard does not come with that. I had to install it myself.

institute 11 - I m running Python 2.7.2 issued with Lion 10.8.4.

Looks like it a lost cause, Im a little disappointed my kids count see the icons. Any thanks for all you help, greatly appreciated.

Can you please look at the below and see if I have answered everything correctly. I am confused about the Plex Connect and PMS arent they on the same device, in others words my mac mini.

  • The Plex media server (PMS) version number you are running (**do not put 'latest'**): 0.9.7.28.33

  • The local IP address of the device that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on: 192.168.1.105.

  • The PlexConnect version number. If using Github source then a time and date of download (look at the creation date of the folder) and if you are using any testing branch e.g. the Elan/PlexInc one: Sunday, 4 August 2013 9:04 AM

Vanderboy72,

You may have plexconnect and the PMS on the same machine but nor everyone does (and you don't have too)

I note that your version of PlexConnect is a couple of weeks old, have you tried downloading a new version?

Also the same goes for your PMS  (Looks like 0.9.8.4.125 has been released outside of just plexpass)

With regards to the 'Settings.cfg' thsi file is created the first time you run the plexconnect.py script, so the request here is to show your settings to allow everyone to help you in case you have a setting wrong, etc

I take it you have normal OSX not OSX server on your Mac Mini?

Also earlier you confirmed your ATV firmware was 5.3 but now you are saying its 5.2.1 (Can you confirm which it is?)

Thanks - Let me try that again.

I just did a full ATV reset and installed the latest Plex Connect Master - any help> Plex still not sending meta data for movie files pictures.

I know plexgdm is on, but maybe try making the ip_pms the ip of your PMS and then restart the plex connect.py script

Ah well I'll keep uploading the latest Plex Connect and see if anything changes.

The funny thing is my Plex Library on the atv doesn't look like all the ones ive seen on You tube.

HI everyone,

I just wondering if there are some issues with the asset/templates xml scripts?

I found an older blog in this forum suggesting there was some issues. I wouldn't know where to begin on that, but the case made clear reference to the fact that parent thumb art work was not coming through on the deck.

Which is exactly what happening to me.
