Well… My problem was never addressed, and the latest upgrade says I won’t be able to match using the legacy agents down the road. Since the new agents still don’t work, it will be the end of my Plex adventure.
As you see, we tried everything, and the Plex developers were unable to help me…
If that’s support, I’ll go elsewhere if we don’t have this fixed before the legacy agents are discontinued. I already have Jellyfin running side by side with Plex.
I went through the same ordeal, I’ve been running Jellyfin side by side as well for a week now, and I’m going to flip over permanently on Feb 14th and give Jellyfin some love! It’s a shame really, I loved Plex at one time when it was stable!
Word of advice… don’t forget if you have any external friends sent a bcc email to let them know. I had to do that today!
Good luck and if you find that you like Jellyfin, don’t forget to donate a little something to them for their efforts. I did so!
Plex was riding the waves because the had no real competition, and they spent tons of resources implementing things we did not want, and on top of that those implementations were always half way baked and then abandoned in Google Style, and because of that they never cared to fix basic problems. Subtitles support has been always subpair, transcoding when it is not needed and blaming either the client or the user, Sync/Downloads never really worked as it should, Camera Sync was a hit or miss and then removed, the Photo Gallery is slower to browse than browsing cloud base photo libraries, and so on.
But things are changing. And sooner or later Jellyfin will have clients for all possible devices and more Plex users will know about them. And this is welcoming because either Plex up their game or they will see their user base migrating to new waters.
I am a big Plex fan, and I supported them with a Plex pass subscription before I even needed the benefit of having one. I turned others on to the platform…. Etc.
I’ve tried everything to get the agents on my server to work. Yesterday, I tried once again to install a new server on my NAS, and got the same result as before. When I signed into the new server, it just shows the content from my original server. This is an unnecessary complication from another decision Plex is hell bent on…
You’re not signing into your server…. You’re logging into THEIR service and being presented with your server. This, so they can control your remote access and require a subscription to get in from the outside world.
It also means when their service goes down, so do you….
No resetting the database…. No importing a database from the backup we can create either. No deleting user history or users…. Basic stuff.
They are clearly working towards being another Netflix, and I’m not interested.
Signed up for Emby… Server is running. Plex will end its journey on my network March 20th when my Plex Pass expires.
I had Jellyfin running, but app support is lacking at the moment. And Jellyfin is just Emby 5 years ago, so… The funny thing is that Plex blamed some issue with my network, but Emby is running the same way (in a TrueNAS jail) with the same settings. No issues connecting to the providers, which means that it is certainly Plex’s issue.
Anyway, I appreciate all the effort from those who at least tried to help along the way.
