Plex Agent not finding new movies

Server Version#: Version 1.41.6.9685
Player Version#: Version 4.145.1
As of about a week ago, I noticed that my Plex Server would only scan for a few seconds whenever I would select to scan the files for my movies. After looking online and trying different settings changes I discovered that if I changed my Scanner to the Legacy version, it would scan and find the new movies but would leave a “!” in my notifications saying that I was using an outdated version for my Plex Server. I thought maybe it was a one off issue and switched back after finding and matching the new movie file but it removed the movie after I swapped back to the new scanner (Plex Media). I have tried other scanners and agents but legacy is the only one that has worked when it comes to scanning for new movies. I have refreshed all my metadata as well. Anyone have a solution for this? It’s very frustrating!

You’re not alone. This is impacting a bunch of us and I’m hoping that Plex devs are paying closer attention:

So have you just been using the legacy agent in the mean time?

That is correct. It seems to work well enough for the most part, barring the bug in the latest beta version that forced a rollback.

I’m also having the same issue.

It’s clear that this is a much wider issue than the Plex folks would like to admit.

Same here, I had been switching back to the legacy version until the most recent build and now that doesn’t work either. The weird part is when I was working with Plex support on it last month we managed to get it working for a little bit, but then it stopped again. I’m assuming they are working on it as its now a known issue.

Follow this main thread. A developer mentioned a hotfix is on its way.

It was working again for a couple of weeks but I noticed as of yesterday that it’s back to broken again.

Is yours broken again or still working?

I downgraded to 1.41.5.9522 and the new agents work properly.

Did you have to completely uninstall the current version to do that or were you able to revert to a previous version some how on the server?

I’m running Linux so i just installed that version, which warned me that I was downgrading versions.

Is there an update to this or a proper fix as of yet? This just started for me over the last 3 days but it is the same error. I tried to switch to the Plex Movie Scanner agent and despite saving and the save working it would revert back to Plex Movie which would yield no results in matching media so I am adding details manually which is stupid. I’ve been on the fence for a couple years for trying jellyfin, but this may be the final push to look at their media server. Any and all help would be welcome. I am running Version 1.41.6.9685 on a Windows Server.

Any update to this? I have several movies and TV series waiting to be matched. Oh yes, and subtitles have stopped being found when searched for.

I’ve just ‘fixed’ this.
I’ve been running Plex for years (12+) without problems. Two years ago I installed a PiHole on my network - on a Raspberry Pi, to remove ads etc. Eight or nine weeks ago, match stopped working on Plex. I hadn’t made any changes, to anything, for around five months.
Today, I changed the DNS settings on my Synology DS920+ to point to Google’s DNS server instead of my PiHole and Match started working again. I’ll check subtitle downloads later.

Yup, subtitles are now found and downloaded too.

That’s the solution. Thank you very much.

This fixed it for me too.

I’ve been running Pi Hole for years now and Plex for even longer than that.

Changing the DNS server of my Plex VM from Pi Hole to 1.1.1.1/1.0.0.1 and restarting Plex fixed metadata matching.

I’d still like to know why this was happening; nothing in either the Plex or Pi Hole logs seemed to point to Pi Hole as being the problem.

Pi hole is a DNS based Internet filter. Apparently it has been filtering too much, so that all started working as soon as you took it out of the picture.
