adding local assets could be a good feature. but not if it takes mkv-thumbnails.
don’t know if this is a bug… but this is just horrible - and makes the whole feature not usable…
obviously it should only take poster.jpg and so on. so please add a way to disable mkv-thumbnails
at least mkv-thumbnails should not be taken when it’s not forced to take local-assets

and sometimes it looks even like this ?!?!??!??
why the hell would the agent take a damn preview-picture for a movie-poster ?!?!?!
guess the whole agent is still in alpha ?
the old ones never worked that bad
We don’t read embedded images from MKVs only from MP4 files, so I suspect these are actually MP4s you’re talking about.
To prevent embedded images from being picked over sidecar images, make sure you don’t have “Prefer local metadata” enabled in the library settings under “Advanced”. Embedded images also count as local assets, so if you have “Use local assets” enabled but don’t have any sidecar poster.jpg for example, then it will still use the embedded image.
Remember to refresh the item metadata once you have made these changes.
My advice would be to not add embedded images to your media if the image isn’t a proper poster.
i made sure it’s not “prefered”.
this is so unbelievable … setting up from an old backup and the new agent is overwriting all my handpicked posters … this way i tried to use my backup posters from lambda , but still suxx this way. so now i have to figure out how to remove those thumbnails from the mp4’s … omfg
your advice is … lets say … no way…
cuz the main problem in the first place is that plex doesn’t handle well posters at all. had a nice library, now the new agent crashes everything… thanks for nothing … don’t know how many times i had to go over all the posters after changing agents. it’s a pain in the ass, every single time. AND YES; IT IS OVERWRITING HAND PICKED POSTERS FROM OLD AGENTS !! YES, IT DOES THAT. NO, ITS NOT A DREAM ! boy !! i told you so years ago. last time 1 year ago. and i will for sure do it in a few years again. because you guys dont listen.
stop working on nonsense features and fix the (unbelievable buggy) core
btw taking the thumbnails from mp4 is such a crazy bullshit … think about it before embedding such nonsense
and if you still SOMEHOW think it’s a good idea, make it optional !!
LIKE ONLY TAKING MP4 BULLSHIT THUMBNAILS, IF IT IS ON “PREFERED” OR BETTER “FORCED!” … boy, how bad can someone make a product for customers
Can you provide the XML info for one of these items where the poster was overwritten? We definitely don’t overwrite posters if they were locked previously (which is done automatically when you use the poster picker and change it).
and make an official option for backing up posters, after you killed plugins … it makes no sense to edit any posters in plex this way. since its such a horrible handled feature
Many people use this feature. If it doesn’t suit your needs then don’t embed images in your files to begin with. You can also remove these embedded images after the fact.
And again, we’ll only use these if you don’t already have a poster.jpg file. If you don’t want to use local posters at all then disable both “Use local assets” and “Prefer local metadata”.
to even make it better: i even uploaded this one my self
like you can clearly see, because it’s the last one.
after switching to new agent, it picked this one, before i changed it manually again

i would not need to use such feature if plex won’t overwrite my posters in the first place … told you
okay… at least now i know what that “really good” agent is doing … so i have to setup the backup again, do something you aren’t able to → lambda backup of all posters with the old agent (seems it didn’t done it the last time) and hope plex is not taking the thumbnails from the mp4’s again…
yeah live is good with plex … good product
but still, i would like to know WHY plex is doing such crazy stuff … maybe you can work on the core more ?
i mean seriously… its a joke or not ? i know i handpicked the poster i uploaded myself to plex … its still there in the library cache ready to pick up … or ready to not get changed …
SO WHY ???.???.???
and btw i chatted with you guys about that problem ONE YEAR AGO ! when i had the same problem and then i just screwed the whole posters and went with that shity ones. but i thought you fixed it a year later. boy
I’m trying to help here but you are not making it easy.
Please just provide information that can help me diagnose any issue, any personal opinions on program features don’t help me.
If this issue occurred very recently the providing the server logs for me may help.
Calm down. If you want help on these forums please be courteous and respectful.
btw i’m trying to help YOU … do i make my money with plex? dont think so.
i told you about that problem one freakin year ago. be glad i’m doing it again, a year later. omfg
i can do this all day long … lol
