boy, this is so annoying for years. why the hell is plex changing hand-picked posters when changing agents ?! this already happened for me when changing from tmdb to plex-movie (now legacy) and it happened again now, when i changed to plex movie (new) …
what the heck … why is this happening ?!
cant even explain how annoying this is! hand-picked-posters should be locked

I can only say: this is a must. I have large libraries - well curated with lots of work going into German cover art for all movies. It is foreseeable that there will be a forced move from classic Plex movie and TV agents to the new and shiny agents.

It will be my last day with Plex if I loose all cover art the day I am forced to use the new agents.

Never happened to me once. But I store my art work correctly named alongside the media file

Sadly for collection posters it doesn’t help.

They do get locked when changing it manually.

If you’re willing to share your database with me I can take a look to see which movies have locked posters in there and determine if it’s because the field wasn’t locked or if the refresh process did something it wasn’t supposed to.

You can grab that from Settings → Troubleshooting → Download Database and then send it to me in a DM (or share a link to a Google Drive/OneDrive link if it’s to large for the forum).

It’s only the ‘drag and drop’ posters in the editor that’s affected negatively, but thankfully, they’re at least still in there to re-select… for what that’s worth.

TV Show Library:
I changed it all over to the ‘New Agent’ (by the means you provided - very recently) - and it blew every custom Season poster in my P’Verse - all created and selected manually.

I don’t have time to help you fix it. I hope @snickers_1 does.

No! they don’t ! I have manually changed HUNDREDS of Posters - and THEY ALL GOT VANISHED !
Don’t tell me something like this over and over again! You guys told me this years before! AND IT IS STILL NOT TRUE
Do you think i’m an idiot or what ?! I know exactly what my Library was looking like! and i know exactly what Posters i hand-picked MANUALLY
this is complete BS

true! you can be assured it’s going to be deleted … don’t know what BS Plex dev’s talking all the time. it’s a fact - for years now

right.
another one who knows exactly how it is.
but the Dev’s don’t listening … i more and more start to hate plex … and the BS they talking

answers like yours make me almost know you guys don’t even use your own product
maybe this is why emby does not have problems like this!

doesn’t make sense to spend a single second to optimize the library with this behavior of pms and the dev’s

but hey, we have arcade now … so it doesn’t matter how messy the library looks like, right ?! how buggy things are …

I’ve said this on a few forum posts but the truly only way to control your artwork is to use local assets. It takes a bit of work but works 100%. The minute you start editing and selecting artwork manually via the plex edit dialog then your in the lap of the plex gods to when/if it’ll change.

One common example is if you use some artwork from TMDB and then subsequently in the future it’s deleted from the their site. Plex then struggles to fail back and figure what to pick.

Local never change unless you do itself once setup.

i did with lambda … but Posters.jpg inside the folders aren’t respected aswell !!
even with “use local assets” activated. with this activated, plex takes jpg info from the file itself (if existing).

so everyone is in knowledge about how things work @drzoidberg33 . but plex dev’s knowing it better
obviously you plex employees don’t even use their own product… so sad

I’ve never had a poster, fanart or season posters not work. Key is never having edited in plex beforehand. I went as far as to rebuild my plex server from start to make sure.

I never said it’s not possibly for a bug to exist, but the expected behaviour is that the poster field is locked when changing it.

I cannot reproduce the issue which is why I’m asking for assistance to track down the circumstances where this happens for you.

a bug ?! for everyone? for years ? what kind of a bug is this ?! does it look like one from starship troopers ?!

i’ll send you my old (thank god backup db) and the new one to compare… so you can see this mysterious big bad “bug”

BTW… That name is wrong. It should be poster.jpg so that could be why it’s not found.

If you wish to get this bug resolved you know where to find me.

I have tried to reproduce it by:

  1. Scan in a movie.
  2. When it’s fully scanned in, edit the poster to something else.
  3. Change library agent.
  4. Refresh the movie.
  5. Change agents again.
  6. Refresh movie.

This works as expected for me and the manually changed poster remains intact through multiple agent changes.

yes you’re right. it’s indeed “poster.jpg” … my bad … but still no success
do i have to use lambda again to have this take effect ? or should the plex agent automatically pick them up ? because that would make things even funnier

change your own (not testing) library and have fun with it
until that, you don’t know what you’re talking about … i have this problem now for the 4-5th time actually.

but like i said, i’ll send you my db’s … problem here is i have to download 500gb backup, unpack it just to send you the old db  funny how things are “working as expected” …
