Stopping Plex from renaming videos

Server Version#: 1.43.0.20467
Player Version#:I just remade my TrueNAS server using truenas scale. I was using Core and running Plex inside a jail. I now have it installed as an app. When I add libraries I add them as “Other Videos”, then select the path, but plex is still changing the names displayed in the library from the filename. The old install of Plex didn’t do this. I have adjusted every setting that I can think of and it still happens. What do I have to check or turn off in settings to have Plex use the filenames in the displayed libraries? Thanks.

“Other video” type libraries should use the file name as title, unless the files have embedded metadata.

Is there not a way to force it to use the filename regardless of metadata?

No, there’s no such option.
If that’s a larger issue, you could look into some tool or script to bulk-delete those tags.

OK, thanks. It is a huge issue, because the old version of Plex I was running in TrueNAS Core didn’t do that, it always displayed the filenames, so I never bothered to edit any of the metadata. I will have to strip the title out of thousands of files. Oh well, thanks for the assistance

I do wonder why Plex haven’t added the library setting to ignore embedded metadata. There was nothing worse than seeing movies named Encoded in Nero Video. Property of Nero Inc.TM

OK, I went through and removed the titles from the metadata on every file on my video server. I started adding libraries again, adding them as “Other Videos”, and it is still renaming them. For example, I have some Sitcoms that I want displayed as their filenames, and it shows them in the library as the episode name, even though the Title line in the metadata is completely blank. I know there has to be a way to fix this, any ideas?
