Store Track Progress for Audio not working

Server Version#: 1.41.3.9314
Player Version#: Windows: 1.107.1.293-575aed08 IOS: 8.44

I have many Audio Books. Many 20+ hours long and single files. The setting “Store Track Progress” for the library simply does not work. If you stop playback you start it over. Hope you remember the timestamp if you even got to see it…

That information should be getting stored in your database.
My first suggestion would be to run @ChuckPa’s DBRepair tool.

It will work with Docker, just read the directions on the GitHub page as he gives an example of how to run it with Docker there.

If there is an issue with the DB, there is a good chance his tool can fix it (as long as it is not too damaged). Note that even if you are not experiencing other issues and everything else appears to be working fine, there could still be database corruption that could get worse over time.

There really is no harm in trying the tool and, depending on the size of all your libraries, it could help increase searching a bit.

Hello!

Did not change anything. whenever stopping playback and then pressing play from the “Album” it starts it over still.

I don’t use audio books on my Plex server so I cannot give any more advice.
As I am not familiar with audio books this might not make sense in their context, but what if you go into the “Album” and then try to play from the actual track? I am thinking of it like a TV series where I would resume from the actual episode. I am not sure if I could just go to the season/series and press play and have it resume from the last episode I was watching. I am thinking maybe it is possible it is similar with audio books. Hopefully that makes sense.

Coincidentally, I just started looking into the concept of using Plex for audiobooks and this issue of “track progress” not working came up in the process of folks answering my first couple of questions - see this thread for more discussion: Couple of noob questions about Plexamp - #7 by Panthercules

My bottom line conclusion was also that this setting does not appear to be working either (at least for my combination of PMS and Roku TVs or Plexamp on iPhone), and it looks like I’ll be going with a third party player solution for the audiobooks on my Plex server as noted in that thread.

It does not matter where I start the playback from.

Just seems to be another nail in the “plex does not care about things people actually want” coffin…

Small update, I wonder if this is particularly a player issue. If I download the media for offline use it also does not remember playback progress.

Could it be that the server is actually logging it but the players are just ignoring it?

Well good to see that yet again Plex does not seem to care for any of the things that people actually want and what made them known in the first place… stop doing/adding things no one asked for and just fix your crud please… This issue is like item 8-9 on the plex fix your junk pile…

I Suspect this even more now. Still need to do some looking into it but it would seem that the client players are to blame. I have notice that if I play an Audio book from my phone and pause it, and give it a bit to sync to the server I guess that plex for windows can resume. However it may also be that I am playing the audiobook from made playlist.

Another thing of note is no matter what IOS and TVOS always restart playback instead of resuming.

Are you actually fully “stopping” playback or just “pausing”? I remember that store track progress required fully stopping playback to sync back to the server - it didn’t work if you left something paused.

Depends on the client… if I fully stop on IOS is does not sync, but if I just pause it does… but windows is the opposite. If you just pause it does not sync but stopping does.

And again of not is that IOS NEVER resumes playing only starts over…

Ah okay. Have you considered audiobookshelf instead - It’s specifically designed for audiobooks and a much better experience (imho)

Haven’t looked at alternatives yet, but I think Plex should just fix there junk instead of adding thing no one asked for… such as trying to be a hub for other streaming services…

Also annoying is if you open up the IOS plex app and the last thing you where playing happened to be the audio book it will INSTANTLY overwrite the play progress even if you don’t actually press play… which is even more annoying because IOS NEVER resumes from stopped…
