Stream Across Networks

Server Version#: Version 1.16.2.1321
Player Version#:

fiber in - fiber modem / wifi router
/ ethernet cable to another home / wifi router

So i have my media server in the main home with the fiber connection. That modem is a full gateway with switch and router. I have an underground ethernet cable going to the other home on the property. That home has an asus dark knight router. When i connect to that wifi, plex is only letting me stream 1 minute at a time. What do i need to do to get it let me stream.

Is it because i am running express vpn on most of my devices?

It may depend on the app you’re using. Some of the mobile apps are not free, unless you have a Plex Pass. If you’re using one of the non-free apps, but haven’t paid for it, they may limit you to one-minute streams.

What other apps can make use of the Plex server?

Only Plex apps, as far as I know.

I’m referring to the mobile Plex apps, including Plex for Android (mobile), iOS (iPhone and iPad), Windows, and Windows Phone, as mentioned here.

ok, i am going to setup a firestick and see what i can do across the networks. Looks like i might just be paying for the service then.

Plex can also serve as a DLNA server, but I don’t know too much about that. I think it’s a bit limited. There’s info about it on the page I linked earlier.

firesticks work fine, its just the android app on my phone that is causing the problem. thank you for the assistance.

The mobile apps (Android, iOS, and Windows) are free to install but run in a trial mode, which includes playback limited to 1 minute. You need to activate the app to remove this limitation. The app can be activated with either making an in-app activation purchase through the app store or by logging into the app using a Plex account that has a Plex Pass.

Only these mobile apps have this requirement. All other Plex clients are free and have no playback limitations.
