Hi I have a dumb question, I got a buddy trying to stream 4k Content from my plex server. He lives about 20 miles away from me. When he goes to stream a 4K movie the MPS goes up to about 40 mps and then freezes. I want to force it to downsample to 1080. I changed the player settings down to 720 but whenever he streams it shows a “direct stream of 4k”. What am I missing? How do I get the 4K content to stream enough for him to play the whole time with no freezing. Thanks in advance for your help. Im running server 1.41.3.9314 on windows 10 with 64 gigs of ram.
I don’t quite understand what you mean by changing the player setting down to 720p, so maybe this is what you’ve already done.
On your server click settings > remote access and change the limit remote stream bitrate to < 4K.
That helps - So if I do that does it transcode it on the fly? Do I need "Plex Optimized Versions? I Cant believe I missed that. I was going into Plexweb and converting Internet Streaming to 1080. Thanks again!!
Pretty sure that will force transcoding then.
HERE is the support article on optimized versions. I don’t use them, so I’m not sure how it works.
