Streaming Brain Bandwidth shows 10 Gbps

for info this is Plex running on a dedicated server remote from me
The file(s) are mkv

It may be nothing to worry about, it is just a bit odd, when using an Apple TV4

If I look at the dashboard, it is showing 10 Gbps (Tautulli also shows the same).

I would assume that Plex has been unable to work out the correct bandwidth of the file. But… if I play the file from other devices (Android, PMP) it shows more normal bandwidth, (approx double the bandwidth of the file)

e.g playing in browser and playing on the ATV4

and I tried remuxing the file and removing all but the english subs, but made no difference.

10Gbps is Plex’s maximum value possible. This just means Plex was unable to determine the bitrate so it just uses this max value.

Are these files ones you just added? If you are seeing x2 of the listed bitrate for your file, that means PMS hasn’t analyzed the file yet. PMS should do this automatically as part of the scheduled tasks. Make sure you’ve allowed enough time for PMS to go through everything you’ve enabled.

But when you say Plex, do you mean just the Plex Client on the ATV4?
As when playing on Chrome it shows more like the expected bandwidth of: 22 Mbps

Why would the ATV4 show 10Gbps but Chrome show 20Mbps when the file is being direct streamed in both cases?

I understand that the x2 bandwidth means PMS has not performed deep analysis of the file, but as the media is cloud hosted, the deep analysis is a slow process.

Some client can analyze the media it receives (iOS, Android, Roku, maybe others, I forget, but not Web). Your files being cloud based could explain it. If it takes too long for the client to receive the file information, it will time out and not use it. So the bandwidth will be unknown and you get that 10 Gbps. Web just relies on the information from the server.

Is the bandwidth value shown in the Dashboard -

the client’s available bandwidth
or “the stream is using this much bandwidth”
or “the stream may require this much bandwidth”

?

Just a follow up, so it does seem to be due to the files being in the cloud (google drive).

I downloaded one of the files and added it to one of my local servers.

Performed deep analysis on both files, the cloud based one and the local one and playback of the local one reports bandwidth of 14Mbps.

Even after deep analysis of the cloud based one it still shows bandwidth of 22Mbps (10Gbps on ATV4)

Same results on my dedicated server running Plex:

File goes from google drive -> dedicated server -> local client

and my local nas server with the cloud mounted drive.

Files goes from google drive -> local nas -> local client

I do wonder how fast it needs to be for the client to receive the information, as I do have pretty good internet bandwidth (at least for the uk) and downloading the media from the cloud will max out my internet speed.

So it seems there may be no point in allowing deep analysis if your media is not local.
