Streaming bufferring when video file is more than 40Mbps

Server Version#: 1.20.4.3517
Player Version#: 6.6.166715-c4643204c-Plex

Hi,

I am having issues streaming files bigger than 40mbps to my 4k roku TV at home. The film can stream nicely for an hour or all the way sometimes, but most of the time it buffers and the roku player stopes the connection after a few retries with the error: “The connection to the server was not fast enough to stream content”. I also have a PS4 at home so I installed the plex player and it still buffers, the only difference being that the ps4 player does not stop the stream and will continue to buffer continuously.

The problem started happening ever since I installed Plex on a raspberry pi 4 with 4GB of ram. The pi is connected to my router with an ethernet cable and I even tried to cable my tv to the router, with no effect.

I’ve noticed that plex is (almost) always transcoding the audio of the video to AC3 so that my TV can read it. So I went though the process of converting my video file so that the audio is AC3 and now the server is direct playing both audio and video, but buffering still occurs.

I’ve tried taking a look at the logs myself but I don’t understand them enough to make a good diagnosis of what could cause the issue.

Before I had the raspberry 4 I had Plex installed on an old macbook (running linux) with intel core2duo and 2GB of ram. On this computer Plex was running flawlessly direct streaming 4k videos (up to 100mbps) even with audio transcoding.

It’s really annoying because all my 4k movies or 1080p remux movies are not working anymore.

Is there a known problem with the raspberry pi 4 and its ability to direct stream content past a certain bit rate?

I uploaded the logs if someone would like to take a look at them. the last few hundred lines contain an example of a movie starting, buffering and stopping due to the Roku player.

Thank you for your Help,
