I have my movies on a very basic NAS drive (SSK Cloud). Is there a way to stream movies directly from the NAS drive to Plex on my TV? i.e. not via a computer. I have added the NAS IP address to Plex media server, but I keep getting an error message.
You cannot bypass the Plex Media Server. If you had a capable NAS you can install the server on your NAS instead of using your computer but SSK Cloud is not supported for that.
You need to mount the drive from yoru NAS on your computer first so it looks like a regular drive on the computer. After which you can add a directory on that drive to the Add Folders settings when creating a library on the server.
I have done that, but wondered if there was a way to do it directly from the NAS drive, so I don’t have to turn the computer on every time I want to watch a movie.
Plex is specifically a server>client service. You must have a Plex server who sends videos to clients. If you do not want a server, and simply want clients to play your videos, consider other programs. Kodi is a fantastic stand-alone video player for many TV’s and boxes, which you can point to your media on your NAS and play directly.
