Hi have anyone notice lately the streaming direct play is having issue. I have set my friends TV’s, Android Phone to Maximum and yet it still transcoding from 1080p to 720p. Sometimes no audio. Why is this happening and every update has issues… ??? I have notice PMS has memory issues too…
I don’t know. I need to see logs. In the LG app, there is an option to send logging information to your server. Enable that setting, recreate the problem from your TV, then grab the PMS logs and upload them here.
According to your log, your friend is using an LG TV running an older version of the Plex client due to the TV running WebOS 1.4.0. That sounds wrong. A 4K LG TV should not be running that old a WebOS version. I will check with the devs to see if there is an issue on our end detecting this.
That version of the Plex app cannot play 4K video so it will transcode to 1080.
Hi MovieFan, I have try playing on my Samsung 55’ 2015 4K Smart Tv plex App version 2.012 and it is the same. It transcode from 4K to 1080p. I try to select direct play and error
That is an older app created by a Plex user, not directly by Plex. It should work with 4K. I think it might be the audio. I don’t know if it can handle TrueHD. Try using the AC3 audio track and see if that works.
There is no official Plex app for those older Samsung TVs. The app you do have is actually a really good app. The dev of that did a wonderful job but unfortunately had to stop supporting it. I’d be surprise if that old of a TV actually supported TrueHD audio. You can just force everything to work. Choose the direct stream option and that will allow PMS to transcode the audio as needed.
I might be wrong about your friend’s TV. Can you ask him to dig deeper into his TV settings and see if he can find the WebOS version. This is not the same as the firmware version.
Oh, ok. The logs were right. That TV is running WebOS 1.4, which is really old. So yeah, the TV is too old and what can be direct played will be very limited.
