Streaming/Playback Issues on Android TV - Sony Bravia

For the past few months, I have been having issues with Plex on my Sony Bravia which is our main TV. Chromecast, iOS, Windows, and my Android cell phone have no issues either connected to LAN or Remote, it plays almost instantly with the same show that just sits frozen. The buffer bar even shows it’s loaded but it won’t play. Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max all play fine as well. I have tried the following:

Restart TV manually by going to Settings, and clicking restart. This typically resolves the issues for that single movie or episode as long as I don’t turn off the TV.

I have also cleared all data from the Plex app, uninstalled, deleted it from PMS, and reinstalled it. No change with this.

I tried disabling secure connections on both PMS and the App with no change.

I was able to capture the exact thing I was talking about above in the Sony_Bravia_Log.txt. I think I can only use network logs for that app. I was able to restart the TV, open Plex, start network logging, open a show that wouldn’t play before and it played fine and almost instantly. I then turned the TV off and back on, and it wouldn’t play the show anymore.

If it helps, I am running PMS on RHEL8, both RHEL8 and PMS are up-to-date.

I’m not sure what else to do at this point any help would be greatly appreciated.

Update: I attempted to use the beta client on the TV (8.24.0) and did not see any change. It still doesn’t play.

Looks like the rebooting is no longer working as a workaround. Any Plex teammates that can assist?

So the current workaround that has been working for the past week is going into my library and “Optimize for TV” on the videos that are having issues playing. Not sure if anyone else can attest to this being a solution but seems to work somewhat reliably.

I’ve noticed that shows start to play if you retry the media after waiting a few seconds without optimizing the media or even exiting the app.

I have the same issue but I noticed that content that can be Direct Play works just fine it’s only when transcoding.

At first I thought it was the transcoding but other devices are transcoding fine and my NAS CPU has barely any load during that transcoding.

Yeah, that definitely doesn’t work for me. I have tried that. The only thing that did work was completely rebooting android on the TV, but that stopped working as well. The “Optimize” option seems to be the only fix that works reliably for me at least.
