Just wondering if anyone has success with streaming the movie trailers as part of Plex's service offering. I know we can download trailers to store locally on our PMS, but the streaming option would be much better for me - or maybe a feature that will auto-download trailers for movies in my library already (I have way too many to do by hand.)
When I try to play the trailers, it's always pausing/buffering, or just plain getting stuck. I've tried Auto, 1080p, 720p, and SD. Of course SD I have the best luck with but it looks and sounds terrible, and is still not 100%.
I have a 25mbps connection at home, and Youtube HD streams fine normally. I just tried streaming a trailer here at work with Plex/Web, and it simply quit downloading about 2/3 of the way through the trailer.
I was going to post a similar topic. Trailers are constantly pausing/buffering every few seconds for me as well. Youtube, netflix, everything else streams fine. I think there probably needs to either be better buffering so the trailer doesn't constantly pause to load a few seconds at a time, or ideally server would have the ability to download/cache the trailer when syncing the movie info so it's ready whenever you want to play it.
I'm also having this problem. It plays for roughly 7 seconds and then starts pausing every couple seconds. I have a 25 mbit connection and have no problem streaming via Netflix, YouTube, etc. I also have no problem playing any other media -- just the trailers. The problem occurs when playing from either my Google TV box or my web browser, both on my local network.
fwiw, since I posted this, the streaming performance improved significantly, without any intervention on my end. I suspect whatever service Plex is using for this got their act together and provided more bandwidth.
I still get this problem, trailers have to pause / buffer so much they are worthless to me. I’m on rich fiber optic so has to be something about the trailer streaming server.
Was there ever any resolution to this? I have been getting this issue since the inception of using Plex. This only buffers when using the Plex Media Player, but when playing trailers through the web interface, it works great. Everything else streams well (as stated in the threads above).
