Streaming TV Channels and Movies

I’ve recently become aware of a few websites that I think would be of interest to people looking to replace cable completely. The first is phstream.com (which seems to mostly be hosted by boxlive.tv) This site allows you to watch live streaming cable channels. The quality isn’t the best, but it’s free. You can see it in action here:

http://www.boxlive.tv/channels/comedyguy

There’s a 30 second ad, and then uninterrupted streaming of the channel.

A full list of the channels available can be found here:

The second website is letmewatchthis.com, which redirects to moviewatch.in. I believe you need an account for this one, but it’s free registration. This site doesn’t host any video, but rather provides links to where the movies are stored throughout the web. Once you click on a movie, it will take you to a page of links, which are rated by users, and will also tell you the quality of the video. After selecting the appropriate stream, you will be redirected to the host page, where you can watch the film. Occasionally I will have to try a couple links before I get one that works, but typically the higher rated ones work well.

I think that both of these would be right at home in Plex. I realize that the plugin for letmewatchthis would be difficult because of the varying host sites, but I thought I’d see if anyone would like to help contribute to the creation of this plugin.

There has been an unsaid policy for plugin development and publication is that the content has to be 100% legit and coming from the content owner’s website directly.

Can you comment on the legitimacy of the two websites you proposed ? Do they repost videos from other websitea ?

I was unaware of this policy. To my knowledge, they are not hosting original content. Feel free to remove this topic.

I do not have that power  but I wanted you to be aware of this limitation and set your expectations !!

Thanks for the information, I definitely didn’t mean to do anything that’s frowned upon here. I guess I was just assuming that since a plugin is merely reading information from a site, that it wouldn’t matter what the site was. Just out of curiosity, if I happened to pursue creating a plugin for my own personal use for something like this, should I refrain from sharing it with others on this forum?

I am not sure and personally I wouldn’t think you should hold back. But you’ll be sure to get a slap on the wrist from one of the “Castle Keepers” if that was not ok … and your plugin if submitted to the app store would not get approved and published. There are some of the unsupported plugins on the wiki page that fall in that category I believe.
