Hi guys, I've been going in circles all day trying to get Plex to work with my new aTV and I can't seem to make much progress. I've been searching the forums to try and overcome any problems I've encountered but I'm afraid I just can't get it working.
Apple TV
Model: MD199LL/A
Software: 6.2 (6698.99.50.31) / 7.1.2 (11D257c)
System info:
MBPr 13" running OSX 10.9.4 and Python 2.7.8
I downloaded the latest version of PlexConnect and placed it in my Applications folder, I made sure my macbook's IP address is static (192.168.0.4), and I have the latest version of Plex Media Server (0.9.9.12.504-3e7f93c) running.
The PMS seems to be working, I can rclick it on my menu bar, launch the Media Manager and see my library in the webapp.
I successfully copied trailers.cer and trailers.pem to /Applications/PlexConnect/assets/certificates/
I originally had a problem with port 53 - I restarted my macbook several times but port 53 was still 'in use'. It wasn't until I quit all instances of Python listed in Activity Monitor did I manage to solve this.
I successfully set my aTV's DNS server to the same IP as my macbook/PMS.
I am struggling to install the certificates via either method.
When I try to add a profile via the aTV GUI (http://trailers.apple.com/trailers.cer) I get "Unable to add profile [109]"
When I tried to install the certificates via USB I thought I'd had some success but when I powered on my aTV the only channels I had were 'Computers' and 'Settings. This prompted me to factory restore my aTV and start again although I've still had no luck.
Absolutely any help would be greatly appreciated as this seems like a great addition to the aTV. If you need any more information from me then please let me know.
PS. I have tried using OpenPlex but it didn't seem to work.
#2 Yup, that's what I meant, if you create certs in windows and migrate to a mac for example, then those certs created in windows don't seem to install via the method your trying when connecting to a mac via aTV. Different file or something. Now that this is not the problem, you can move on to the other possible potential causes ;)
#3 The DNS server set on the ATV (found under the ATV settings > general > network > DNS) extracted from here
(My badd, not machine id but machine ip, looking at your logs it looks like 192.168.0.4)
Sorry if I can't be of much help! : / We've all been there ; ) It's really frustrating, in the end you'll find it was something really trivial that you forgot to do or that was causing the problem ; ) hang in there!
Power down your gear and restart everything is worth a shot ; )
The aTV DNS server has been manually set to the same IP as my macbook which is running the PMS.
I seem to have managed to get it working. When I click on iMovie Theater while PlexConnect.py is running in the Terminal then it connects to my PMS no problem.
Is it normal to have to be running the Terminal window in order to gain access to the PMS?
Awesome, glad you got it working! iMovie huh, guess your an advanced user ; ) we simple folk use trailers.
Yup, unless you wanna make a neat daemon using Baa's method, I use that so I don't have to keep a terminal open or worry about starting PlexConnect. It is virtually running all the time! Many may argue as to which is the best way (OpenPlex, Plexify, OpenCOnnect) I personally just use the daemon!
