I’m wondering if anyone here knows how to resolve the following issue — I’ve tried everything I can think of, but I’m still stuck.
My Plex account seems to be permanently tied to a Plex Home environment. Every time I log in (even on a completely fresh install), Plex immediately brings back a managed profile and the profile switcher, even though I’m the only user.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
Stopped Plex and deleted the entire server config directory (/var/lib/plexmediaserver/...)
Started fresh using Docker with a new PLEX_CLAIM token
Verified HomeEnabled="0" and PlexOnlineHome="0" in the config
Used incognito browser sessions to rule out local cache/cookies
Made sure I’m the only user in the Plex Home — no other managed profiles
Despite all this, the Home profile structure is recreated immediately when I log in with my actual Plex.tv account (email/password). I cannot disable it, leave it, or remove it via any setting in the Plex UI or Plex.tv/account.
What I’m asking:
Has anyone successfully removed their Plex Home in this situation?
And if someone from Plex sees this: could my account’s Home be manually removed from the backend?
This issue is blocking me from:
Setting up a clean, standalone Plex server
Using Discover, trailers, and other Plex Pass features that are unavailable under managed profiles
I do have an active Plex Pass, so it’s extra frustrating that I can’t access the full feature set due to this invisible lock-in.
I also don’t want to create a new account, because I’d lose all of my watch history, play state, and other account-specific data — I just want to continue using my existing account without being forced into a managed profile.
To clarify:
As soon as I spin up a fresh Plex Media Server (tested in Docker) and log in through the web client, I immediately see that:
I’m the only user listed in Plex Home
Yet I cannot enable Discover under Settings → Online Media Sources
My account behaves like a managed profile (e.g., no Discover, no “More ways to watch”, etc.)
However, when I share my library with another separate Plex user account (not through Plex Home, just via the standard library sharing), that user does have full access to Discover and related features — which suggests my main profile is still flagged as managed or restricted.
As far as I could tell from the Plex docs and forum threads, Discover is not available for managed profiles that are part of a Plex Home — which would explain the behavior I’m seeing.
Let me know if there’s anything else I can check or clarify!
I start a fresh Docker container using linuxserver/plex
I access the local web app at http://localhost:32400/web in a private browser window
I’m immediately redirected to app.plex.tv for authentication
Once I log in, I return to the local server interface — but the profile switcher appears, and I’m placed in what looks like a managed account context (no access to Discover, etc.), even though I’m the only user in Plex Home.
No browser extensions active, cache is cleared, and no proxy is in use.
Let me know if I can share more details — happy to help debug.
Turns out the confusion was due to the Discover Source setting.
In my account settings under Online Media Sources, the Discover Source was set to:
Disabled
Which fully disables Discover — even for non-managed profiles.
I changed it to:
Disabled for Managed Accounts
…which effectively enables Discover for regular users. Since my account was treated as non-managed (despite earlier appearances), Discover instantly started working again
Apologies for the confusion — this wording is a bit counterintuitive, but the functionality now behaves exactly as expected.
