Stuttering and PMS CPU spike during video playback

Hi all, looking for some help fixing stuttering durign video playback on a new Apple TV HD. There’s no warnings/errors in the logs. All videos are direct streamed to ATV. This also happens on all container/codec formats in my library.

I’ve monitored PMS during playback, every time the stuttering happens PMS CPU usages spikes to 150-200% for a few seconds then drops back to 5-6%. There’s numerous calls from the ATV to /tv.plex.providers.epg.cloud:12/hubs/discover?count=30&excludeFields=summary&includeCollections=1&includeExternalMedia=1&includeExternalMetadata=1&includeLibraryPlaylists=1&includeMeta=1&includeRecentChannels=1&includeRelated=1&includeStations=1&includeTrailers=1&includeTypeFirst=1.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot further? Setup details below.

Thanks, that IP looks like it’s coming from a container. Wanted to add I don’t get any stuttering on my Fire TV stick or iPad. Issue only happens on my ATV. I’m going to try deleting the EPG tonight. Will report back if the stuttering persists.

I resolved the SSDP errors and confirmed it’s an issue specifically with the EPG. I deleted the EPG database and restarted plex. Video playback was smooth for 2 hours. Refreshed the EPG and restarted plex again. The stuttering is back after watching live TV for 10 minutes. Any ideas how to fix this?

The transcoder ran into some bad spots in the video stream.
What you were seeing is it trying to get you to a valid frame so it could resume.
