Stuttering/Buffering on Direct Play

Server Version#: 1.40.4.8626
Player Version#: Vizio SmartCast 3.0.3-2421.0001

Client plays all videos fine up to about 9Mbps throughput. Attempting to play larger files (say a 1080p or 4k at 35~Mbps) results in constant stuttering/buffering. I have eliminated transcoding as a possibility as the file can be directly played and should be able to be directly streamed. I have tested network throughput and it reads 80+Mpbs via the Netflix app. There are no limits on the server side that I have set to limit throughput streams.

Playing the same file to the windows client does not suffer the same problem. I have created another forum post relating a similar issue with the Android app.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

USB3 to Gigabit LAN Adapter also not work!

Forget the SmartCast.

LOL, you’ll want a connection that’s at least 1.5mbps to 3mbps – maybe even up to 10Mbps for the really fancy stuff.

I think you need a Google TV Streamer, or a Fire TV 4K (Max) Stick, or a Homatics-box-r-4k-plus, or a Nvidia Shield.

80mbps should be plenty based on required bandwidth as listed in the xml and transcode data.

Unless… It’s reverting to base10 for some reason.

Even if that were the case wireless should have a maximum throughput around 250-500mbps. But that stuttering persists even on wifi.

Looks like it was a network cable issue. It’s not 100% fixed but I’m at least now getting 100mbps between the server and the TV now…

Then good luck!
With Gigabit LAN, Plex will perfectly play movie with over 100 mbits.
