Stuttering with direct play on downloaded videos over 20mb bitrate

Alright, so I’ve done a fair amount of research through the different plex issues on stuttering and not sure what mine is. This is issue occurs on a Samsung smart TV which is playing with direct play so the video is fine no transcoding. Sometimes it can vary from 10seconds to 4 minutes before it stutters on videos that are over 20mb bitrate. The videos are all like 10gb+ 4K H265 movies that are able to be played.

Wired or wireless TV? Server? Is server local or remote?

The TV is currently wifi connected. Its local connection both pc an tv on same network. The PC is wired in not the TV though. Still new to this all but I thought that internet wasnt an issue cause it was local and that they were already downloaded.

If you can, temporarily connect your tv via wire and see if the issue persists. Post your server specs, tv model, and media info for the media that is buffering/stuttering.

Ok so annoying issue its currently wall mounted an ethernet port is unable to be reached Im gonna get a usb to ethernet next tuesday and will test it. Its a KS8000 Samsung Smart TV and I use 8700k its a good PC. One of the main videos that stutters is Planet Earth in 4K. Not entirely sure what you want for media info but the video is 38.6mbps bit rate, x265 and mkv file.

If you browse to your media item (movie, whatever) you can click on the elipsis (…) and then Get Info. Then download the XML file and post it. The reality is that a 38.6mbps x265 file is probably being transcoded given your client and that is probably causing your server issue. Just a guess.

Also, in settings, server settings (show advanced), transcoder, is hardware acceleration enabled?

I dont have a plex pass but I have copied the info

Without hardware acceleration, I suspect you’re CPU bound. Otherwise, your wireless network may not be able to keep up. Does your CPU on your server show 100% when playing the video?

ok after testing with another device using ethernet it played flawlessly so thats the issue now just have to somehow get tv off wall. thx for ur help though.

You’re welcome. Good luck with it!
