Here is a log. Stuttering started right at the end.
Plex HTPC.log (1.7 MB)
I am having the same issue since the latest update. All videos stutter throughout playback
I have downgraded to the previous version, which has fixed my issue
It seems to have corrected itself. I did have a video driver update in between but can’t say for sure if that stopped it.
Mine hasnt, reading your last entrry, im guessing your on windows? I am running a mac, i suppose i should pull the logs and psot them i guess. I have been looking for the previous version, there used to be an older softwre section, but i cant seem to find one anymore!!
Yes, Windows 11 and still no reoccurrence.
I do have the same issue from a long time ago (maybe a year). And it is NOT the NVIDIA power settings (tweaked them) AND IT IS NOT the source material WHICH IS PERFECTLY PLAYING IN THE LATEST BUILD OF MPC-HC Player. Powerful NUC extreme (12th Gen Core i7) with an NVIDIA 4060 behaves awfuly in Plex !
One thing I spotted is that sometimes the STUTTERING IS TRIGERRED BY INTERRUPTING THE LINEAR PLAYBACK AND/OR MOVE A LOT FAST BACK- OR FORWARD FROM THE KEYBOARD. Something WAS INTRODUCED in the code of Plex HTPC (or the Plex Server) which causes this beahvior. Please PLEX SUPPORT - INVESTIGATE, BECAUSE I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS ISSUE !
Do you have vertical sync on in your NVIDIA settings?
Can you tell me where is this setting supposed to be - in the Nvidia Control Center or ?
Thank you ! Indeed this has resolved my issues.
Awesome, I know how frustrating it is. It took me a long time to find that setting.
Big, big, big thank you one more time ! One quick question - what output format settings are you using in the resolution pane of the Nvidia control center? I use 32bit/RGB/12bpc/Full. Is this the best qua output quality or am I mistaken ? These settings are never explained properly by the vendors :).
I used to try to force those but don’t anymore. I just installed a 4060 Ti and when set to “use default color settings” and all the HDR settings are enabled in Plex, it does all the switching for you. So, when I go into my advanced display settings when a 4K HDR 10 is playing, the GPU switched from RGB 8-bit SDR at 60 HZ to RGB 10-bit HDR at the movie frame rate. When I exit the movie, it switches back to RGB 8-bit SDR at 60 HZ.
I also have issues with the 1.70.1.303 HTPC on Windows 11 with Intel N100.
None of the videos played are smooth, as if in low FPS.
Rolling back to 1.69.0.264 resolves this issue.
Having the same issue with stuttering on my kubuntu 24.04 pc running the current flatpak release. Is there a known bug or something? This is a new issue. I’ve not seen it before.
I rolled back to 1.69 flatpak, and it seems to have resolved the stuttering.
Edit: I was mistaken. Stuttering persists. I moved back to the latest release.
Same here with N150. Looks like low-framerate playback.
Side note on the Nvidia side of things.
Nvidia somehow messed up drivers years ago, which leads to stuttering even though not dropping any frames. This is also present in madVR…
In Plex HTPC (and probably Plex Desktop) this can be fixed by adding swapchain-depth=1 to the mpv.conf. This fixed it for me.
