My Movies folder is structured so that there is a folder for each movie, and inside that folder resides the media file and if I have it a subtitle file. If there are multiple movies in a series, for example Back To The Future, then I typically have a folder in Movies for that series, and then inside that I have a folder for each movie in the series, and inside that folder is the actual movie file, e.g;
Movies
Back To The Future
Back To the Future Part I
Back To The Future.avi
Back To The Future Part II
Back To The Future II.avi
Back To The Future Part II
Back To The Future III.avi
The problem is when I have such a setup, The "by folder" option in PlexConnect is not displaying the media files, when I select the Back To The Future item, nothing is displayed in the right hand side of the screen.
If I happen to have just the media files in named folder, then it does display all the items there.
It seems that it's not recursively looking in the sub-folders.
If I check Media Manager in PMS, it is picking up the files in the folders, so I'm wondering if this is PlexConnect issue, or just the way PMS works. My Blu-ray player, which sees PMS as a DLNA server did (it's not picking up PMS any more for some reason, not sure why) not have a problem with the structure, hence why I'm wondering if it's a PlexConnect issue.
I tried the Mac Plex Client (on same machine running PMS). This time trying my Alien Quadrilogy folder (results on PlexConnect were the same as for Back To The Future - ie; it does not show items in sub-folders).
If I simply highlight the Alien Quadrigloy folder, nothing in show in the right hand pane. If I select it (press return / click on it), then it does display the four folders, and then if I drill into the folders it will show the media file.
It sounds as though PlexConnect may well be working in the same manner as the Plex.app, the difference being that selecting the folder in PlexConnect does not drill down into the folder structure.
The latest source will make no difference I’m afraid, it’s a limitation of PlexConnect and one that’s not very high on my to-do list. Groups of movies and things like boxsets are meant to be handled using collections in PMS.

Thanks for the feedback. At least I know it's something PlexConnect isn't handling, and that I should be able to fix it by setting up a collection for movies, which I'll try later. It sounds as though no files would need to be moved around for this either, which is a good thing.
I use the normal file scanner for Series. Because with the series scanner some Episodes just do not show up.
Which shows/episodes are you having trouble getting to show up? I've never had any problems with Plex not finding the correct shows/episodes. Are you sure they're named correctly?
