Subtitles Isn't Recognized Anymore - Version 1.25.1.5286

Server Version#: 1.25.1.5286
Player Version#:

Hi,
I have just update my WIN installation and the problem I have since the last version is still here.

Subtitles arent recognized when they are named like this “2_English.srt”.
If I rename them to match the “mp4” files name, PLEX will see them after scan.

Thank you

The logs don’t really help because the relevant logs have been overwritten already (make sure to always grab the logs directly after refreshing the item you have the issue with).

Is this a movie or tv library? Which agent is being used? What files are in that specific folder?

If there is more than one video file inside a folder then you have to name it the same as the media itself otherwise it won’t get picked up.

Probably because they don’t conform to any Plex-supported file naming schema.

They will be, but only if there is a single media file in the folder - and it will be shown as an Unknown language.

E.g. this should work:

/Movies/A Movie (2021)
  A Movie (2021).mkv
  foobar123.srt

Oh, I didn’t know this was a thing.
I guess even a second version or a local extra will disable that, though?

Correctly named extras shouldn’t interfere but any other media variants (additional versions or multi-part files) will result in this method not working.

Hi again,

logs are fresh, I mean I have add a media file, refresh the library and I have upload them, I assume they are fresh, correct?

Thats the folder “F:\Media Movies Series\Plex\Series\Fear.the.Walking.Dead.S07E08.WEBRip.x264-ION10” and it has only 2 files inside,
“Fear.the.Walking.Dead.S07E08.WEBRip.x264-ION10.mp4”
“2_English.srt”

It is something that I am doing for years now and subs files was recognized without a problem.

I am aware about the “local media assets” and they are active(checked).

I am along time PLEX user, not an expert but still!

I think I have answered to all of your comments.

Thank you

This is a series/tv show. The above applies to movies only.
I assume you recently converted your tv shows library to use the new metadata agent, right?

  1. You must not use one subfolder per episode
  2. You are missing a season folder
  3. file name of the subtitle file must be identical to the filename of the video file, plus the language indicator. In this particular case that would be Fear.the.Walking.Dead.S07E08.WEBRip.x264-ION10.eng.srt

No, I didnt!!!

I didnt know I have to do something. I will read the article and I will come back.

Thanks @OttoKerner

OK,

just to be sure that I have understand the changes correct.

Under the new “rules” we have to create a “TV show folder” which includes the TV shows “year” at his name and inside it a new folder which will be the TV shows “season” folder, example,

/Series
/Fear the Walking Dead 2015
/Season 07
Fear.the.Walking.Dead.S07E06.WEBRip.x264-ION10.mp4
Fear.the.Walking.Dead.S07E07.WEBRip.x264-ION10.mp4

Now at the last folder if we want to add subtitles also, they should have the same name as the media name file name plus the language designator, example,
“Fear.the.Walking.Dead.S07E06.WEBRip.x264-ION10.en.srt”.

I have to mention that PLEX sees the TV shows as before without doing the above but as I was doing it till now, the example I have gave at a previous post abut files, folder structure, except for the subs.

Am I correct?

Basically correct. Except that the (year) always goes into parentheses.

Oh yes,

you are right about the year.

I have work to do, change my whole TV show folder structure but I think its way better with the “new way”.

Thank all for the support, especially @OttoKerner

I have this issue aswell. I watched many episodes on a series with srt. After i refreshed metadata for the season no episode is showing the SRT external like they did before. And i have not changed a singel thing with the file/folder structure. This started happening yesterday. Plex update that were available today did not help either and i implemeted tvdb metadata couple of days ago so should not be the reason.

Update: I just renamed my SRT file to be identical to the mkv with .language indicator and skipped the season folder i had and this worked.

I have already done them, wasnt to many, many, lucky me!!!

Thanks
