Issue with subtitles

Anyone know why all - Showname S01Exx.en.srt - subtitles (matching - Showname S01Exx.mp4 -) in - TV Shows/Showname/Season 01 - folder would be recognized and all - Showname S02Exx.en.srt - subtitles (matching - Showname S02Exx.mp4 -) in - TV Shows/Showname/Season 02 - folder would not be recognized?

Did you disable the Local Media Assets agent? (you must not)

Have you performed an Analysis?
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200289336-analyze-media/
or a Refresh Metadata?
(for the whole series)

Are Season 01 and Season 02 within the same ‘show’ folder?
(there must be a space character after ‘Season’)

Please post the Plex XML info of one episode in season 02.

Hi,
Local Media Assets are enabled for the library. Have performed an analysis and refreshed the Metadata - did not resolve the issue. Season 01 and Season 02 are in the same folder. There is a space character after ‘Season’ in both folder names (I corrected my original post to indicate that is the case).

Here is a link to the XML file:

Thanks for any insight.

This may sound stupid but are you sure the second season of subtitles are in fact
Showname S02Exx.en.srt and not Showname S02Exx.en.srt.txt or some other file format that Windows hides the extension on?

No, the final four characters of the filenames of all the subtitle files are: .srt

I see that you are using a UNC path.
Are running Plex server as a system service in Windows, perhaps?
Have you checked that the subtitle files have actually file access permissions
which allow the plex server user account on Windows to read them?

May I see one of those srt files? (zip+attach them directly to a post in here.)

The Plex server is running in Windows 7. The files are on a Windows server on the network. The subtitle files have the same permissions as the video files in the ‘Season 02’ folder which are recognized, and the same permissions as the videos and subtitles in the ‘Season 01’ folder which are recognized.

I don’t believe it is related to the subtitle file. I renamed a subtitle file in the ‘Season 01’ folder .srt.old, copied a subtitle file from the ‘Season 02’ folder, and renamed it to what the first file had been named. Ran analyze and refreshed the Metadata and the subtitle file was recognized. But the subtitle file is attached.

Do the same for Season 02. Backup one of the s02 srt’s. copy a season01 sub over and name it, re-analyze and refresh the Metadata. What happens?

Re: NewPlaza suggestion: Copied a subtitle file from ‘Season 01’ folder over to ‘Season 02’ folder and renamed it. Re-analyzed and refreshed. It wasn’t recognized. It is something specific to subtitle files in that folder.

You may still have the issue with s02 subtitles. To make absolutely sure, backup a season01 srt, re-analyze and refresh, if the subtitle is gone from plex then add one from season02, rename, re-analyze and refresh. Does Plex see the subtitle now?

I removed a subtitle file from ‘Season 01’ , re-analyzed and refreshed, copied a subtitle file from ‘Season 02’, renamed it as the removed file and re-analyzed and refreshed. The file was recognized.

Try my version

It does sound like a permission problem

Stupid question:
Why do you name the show Victoria on Masterpiece ?
I think it is just called Victoria

I would be inclined to agree except all the files were copied to the same folder on the server, and the video files are recognized and the subtitle files aren’t.

No, that version wasn’t recognized.

Victoria - TheTVDB.com

No particular reason. It’s “Victoria” in the UK (created there), but it’s shown on Masterpiece Theater in the States, so I just went with it.

Nice cleanup. But could the contents of the file affect if Plex will detect it?

I would at this point. rename season 02 folder, then create a new Season 02 folder. Copy the contents from the old to the new.analyze…, etc…

I renamed ‘Season O2’ to ‘OLD’, created a new ‘Season O2’ folder, copied everything over, re-analyzed and refreshed Metadata. The videos under Season 2 are recognized and play, the subtitles are not recognized. I may just start over - create a ‘Victoria’ folder, create season subfolders, copy and rename etc.

Move out the the subtitle file. Using Plex Web, go to the preplay page for that episode and confirm there is no subtitle. Put the file back. In Pelx Web, move out of the preplay screen and back in. You should see the spinner come up for a second.

Go to your logs folder and grab the com.plexapp.agents.localmedia.log file in the PMS Plugin Logs folder and upload it here.

Are you actually typing an Ooo instead of Zero? They are not interchangeable. Verify that both the video files and the subtitle files use actual zeros in their names.
