Subtitles issues after tvos 18 update

Hello, plex app in apple tv is freezing after tvos 18 update when playing a video with arabic subtitles, and the subtitles are displayed as squares.
hope that there will be a fix coming soon

Exact same issue here but no subtitles work. Worked fine before I updated yesterday.

Same server and client version as above.

Subtitles show as squares and the stream is choppy AF.

Doesn’t happen on other devices on iOS or iPadOS 18.

My other Apple TV with tvOS17 doesn’t exhibit this issue on the same version (8.39)

Please fix asap!

Don’t think it’s related to Chinese only characters. I don’t have any Chinese subtitles and I experience this issue every since upgrading to tvOS18

Oddly enough doesn’t impact iPad or iOS

Confirming if you switch to the old video player in settings the subtitles work. Thanks for the fix!

In my personal guess, this may be related to the fact that a font used by Plex has been replaced in the iOS18 System.
This font name may be caused by hard coding in the code of Plex APP.

In addition, the mitigation measures will lead to the activation of transcoding to play videos.

Still doesn’t work for me. I tried all the workarounds but I don’t get subtitles on appleTV. For the same video everything works fine on iOS and SmartTV… is there a chance this gets fixed?

Do you folks have the issue all the time, or just in certain situations?

My Apple TV will not play live TV subtitles, but all the other media is fine. The subtitles are always on, but if I turn them off and back on per file, it will work for that episode. I did try changing the font to Mono based on some other threads, but it did not change the behavior.

My Roku does not have this issue.
