I take it those 2 suggestions actually address the same issue / pain point?
While this one was created earlier, the one linked below has approx. 2x the votes. I wonder if it makes sense to merge those 2 threads to combine your votes/comments?! – however I might be misreading something about those suggestions.
The pain point is too bright subtitles. Changing the color as requested by other user is a work around to fix the actual problem of subtitle brightness. If merging both will add more delay, I would request to fix the bright subtitles problem, then in later release may be add the color option.
Thanks a lot for listening to us.
How is this still not resolved??
Come on, at least give us a darker grey subtitle option so that using Plex for HDR content on an OLED TV is tolerable, it can’t possibly be that hard to implement one more subtitle color, can it?
Another friendly reminder that we are still waiting for this basic feature to be added.
Same problem… HDR content subs are way and way to bright…
This is a perfect example. What a nice halo of light to have surrounding your subtitles!
+1
So annoying to watch and in dark scenes its just hurting the eyes and distracting.
Hopefully we see a feature/option/fix really soon!
Considering this suggestion is more than 18 months old, I think you should manage your expectations
To be honest…i found the option this week in the Nvidia Shield Plex App.
When you play a HDR movie/serie and go to the options, you can change the color of the subs so all is good on my end now!
The option to change the colour has been there for a long time.
I have tried them all and they still look way too bright. I found yellow to be the least painful for me, but there is still much room for improvement. Working on the opacity/transparency would solve this problem for good, whatever colour the user would decide to use.
If i put them on color ‘Gray/Moderate Gray’ its perfect for me.
Only problem is Plex doesnt remember the settings even if i select ’ Always use these settings '.
So it works but i do need to change the settings every time.
I’m happy to say that this problem is now fixed for me on the Nvidia Shield player.
I just noticed the “new” colour (I don’t know how long ago it has been added) : vaguely haunted grey. It is a very pale grey which is perfect for HDR content. No more glowing halos around the subtitles now. It may be just a tad too pale for SDR content, but at this point I’m just nitpicking.
Great job Plex team
2021 clean-up: implemented (as per final post)
